Re: Bad trips are caused by people not being able to accept true reality [Re: Northerner]

The mushrooms have completely eliminated my urge to drink for the last 13 months!  It’s nothing short of a miracle.  I guess maybe it’s time to trust in myself and do it on my own.

And thank you for the suggestion!

What kind of dosage and schedule worked for you? I know someone that desperately needs to stop drinking

Oy, I’m not sure my protocol would be helpful. I had been on SSRIs for several years, so it took probably around 6-7 g of APE my first time (in three doses).  I stayed at between 6-10 g after that. Sometimes, it was too much, and I got my ass kicked. I became much more careful about measuring my doses and also (on advice of my therapist) asked the shroomies permission before taking any more.

I’m just a hack trying to figure stuff out on my own. Very grateful I’m not drinking 1.5-2 bottles of wine per day. I wish I could be more helpful. I wish everybody who’s an addict could go to the Johns Hopkins guys and get their hands held.

Thank you, that was still helpful even if I don't think there's any chance they'll want to take doses that big

Okay, I must respectfully disagree. People return to alcoholism because the insights they uncover with psychedelics don't compute with the world they must return to. People go back to wanting to feel numb. We live in a cruel society = rampant alcoholism. The Russians aren't just boozing morons. They live in an even more cruel society. I know three people very close to me who are dead from alcoholism. I know what causes it and it isn't just "alcohol addiction disorder." A.A. ... I've been in A.A., and the whole thing is based on alcoholism being literally an "allergy." That is just plain nonsense. A.A is a re-education camp.

Quote:
Life, as we find it, is too hard for us; it brings us too many pains, disappointments and impossible tasks. In order to bear it we cannot dispense with palliative measures... There are perhaps three such measures: powerful deflections, which cause us to make light of our misery; substitutive satisfactions, which diminish it; and intoxicating substances, which make us insensible to it.

The whole of psychology today is plagued by two fallacies, namely post hoc ergo propter hoc and the simple ad hoc.

I'll give you an example. In A.a. they stick you in a big room full of other people and, through coercion, get you to openly confess to being merely "an addict," and then they use that as evidence that your alcoholism or addiction comes from the simple Christian dogma that you are fundamentally debauched and greedy for pleasure at the expense of reason. This is why my friend Nelly May drank herself to death with Canadian Mist in the back woods of southern Louisiana. She knew it was all a lie. It is just like how in North Korea they make you confess to crimes, and then sentence you to work camps. It is just a softer version. Unfortunately it leads people to suicide. So it is arguably worse. Wolves in sheep's clothing. But they are robot wolves doing the bidding of the actual wolves.

This is just plain junk psychology!

Humans drink for a myriad of reasons. Addiction is a multi multifaceted beast and can not be distilled down to 'society is cruel'.

You know what cause alcoholism?! You know why every human becomes addicted to alcohol?

People wouldn't drink otherwise. I've seen hundreds of people brainwashed by A.A. yes, I can speak for others who cannot speak for themselves, and I can speak for myself, because I used to drink a bottle of Tanqueray every day with my husband. I also come from an alcoholic family. Both of my parents are alcoholics, my brother was a world class bartender who served drinks to the likes of Carlos Santana and other stars. Two of my grandparents are alcoholics, and one of them is recovered (with religion).

As well, my aunt and uncle are alcoholics... and the list goes on. You can call it 'bunk psych,' but I got a 98% on the ap psych final in highschool, and was 2nd in the class, and majored in psychology. I know all the bullshit being said... and it is exactly that. Bullshit pumped up by capitalists. There is a reason homeless people drink. I saw a woman drunk as a fish yesterday shouting at a brick wall. It is indeed the cruel society that degrades people and shoves liquor in their face.

It is very simple. Making it some complex phenomenon is intellectualization for the sake of obfuscation.

Even Carl Jung noticed it when he went to America. What did he say? "The natural man is in open rebellion against the utterly inhuman form of existence."

Bunk psych, you say? Why did Lawrence Kohlberg jump off a bridge? Do you even know who that is?

Check out when you get the chance what the percentage of recovery rate is for publicly and privately funded rehabs. It is close to 98% failure rate. Why is that? Oh, yes... people are debauched hedonists.... Right.... What I am saying is actually humanist. What you think you are saying is really an illusion and is just supportive of the greed of certain individuals profitting from fake psychology and re education camps back into slavery. Abraham Lincoln said wage work is tantamount to slavery. Then he was shot. Yes, alcohol if you did not know, numbs you. It is literally an anaesthetic. This isn't some self righteous grandstanding. This is basic analysis unadulterated and un-seduced.

The word 'addiction' is bullshit anyway for the most part. My husband's mother shot him up with methamphetamine when he was 13 years old and got him hooked on it. He got off it by himself when he was 16, and he says the same exact thing. It is a substitute. It is escape from pain. That is the source. 'Addiction' is how people are sucked into systems that don't give a shit about them and are designed by people who want obedient workers. Addiction is a lie. Finding yourself and recognizing an inner meaningfulness that can combat the pain (and unnecessary struggle caused by a cruel society ran by sociopaths) is the only way to actually stop seeking numbing agents, and excuses and substitutions, which is exactly what religion is, and is exactly why so many people call Alcoholics Anonymous a cult.

No you're wrong about the roots of addiction. As a person who has lived through addiction several times over and come out of it all, you're simply wrong.

Whatever the treatment scams and mistreatment around it all is, that's not the point. It's not even a point, it's just diffusion.

Aristotle said a society is destined for failure when the rich have more than the working class by 10fold. It is much worse than that now. That is called slavery when that happens. No other way to see it. Does Aristotle mean nothing too?

I am right. It is just too much to reckon with, and consequently too painful for people to consider. Nobody wants to accept they live in a totalitarian system designed to enslave and brainwash them. Did you know Latin and ancient Greek prior to ww2 were part of the liberal arts education, and were ubiquitously learned? ... Our society ended over 50 years ago.
Just met a man today that went homeless because he had to have knee surgery. He has a masters degree in chemistry, and can barely walk, needs a cane, and is in his 70s.

Oh yes... business as usual. Everything's fine! ...

What's any of that got to do with addiction? You're not making sense.

There's a million dots but no lines.
