New to the forum and responding to an old post but I do have a lot of experience with prescribed Xanax. I take 2 bars at night for severe insomnia and am a night tripper. It's all about timing. I'll put off taking my meds until the trip is over but during the trip there will be a placebo effect anyhow that mimics the Xanax.
At times I have taken .5 mid trip and found it just cluster-fucked everything. You're better off riding the trip until you absolutely have to take the stuff, doing so builds mental resilience, which of course makes you a better psychonaut. Don't take it until you are very near something like a nervous breakdown, and then you'll appreciate it more- you'll literally feel you've had divine intervention.

Yes Xanax and other Benzos work as trip killer's. Have fun be careful.
