Does all personal meaning derive from the organisms urge to continue its esse. I think woo.

Tree's are pretty valuable with them providing oxygen and all, that's not quantitative, unless you want to count the tonnes of oxygen they produce.

Yah I count it, and the tons of wood I can sell

Okay then, a qualitative approach to valuing a tree could be that it provides oxygen, while a quantitative approach could be that a tree is valuable for its use as a commodity for wood and paper, which are also valuable for education and housing.

One time the quality is the oxigene, one time it's the wood, it can be the shaddow spent or the soil holding tight.... all those qualities can be measured (evaluated), but they are hard to compare.
Each quality has its own purpose in a quantitive way, while I guess the purpose itself can not be measured or evaluated ?
Ok, I'm wrong, you can... but then it's a question of good and bad. Like how good does this hammer work for putting nails in the wall...  ahm, that also could been measured damned hehe
Hmm maybe you are right and purpose has some direct relation to value... so meaning also would have a direct connection to value. They both would be connected via 'purpose'
Nice to ponder about :nut:

A variety of chemical properties of soils can be measured such as phosphorus and nitrogen content but these nutrients are also important for plant growth and in knowing this quantitative data it can be helpful for improving and sustaining the health of crop plants and the yields of food that they supply for our well being.

There's a quantity of oxygen and a quality to having it in our lives, I like clean air thanks. Wood is a valuable commodity for all sorts of human activities and it can be sustainable managed seeing as wood is a renewable resource.

Contaminants like pesticides and fertilizers in waterways can be measured and the water quality of waterways can be compared with a variety of techniques.

Quote:
Indicator Species and Biomonitoring
Monitoring freshwater ecosystems is not only crucial for understanding threats against plant and animal life, but for those against human life too, some threats against humans include cholera outbreaks from an excess of sewage.

Methods for the early monitoring of pollutants and contamination in freshwater zones are focused on chemical indicators, bacteria and algae. Recently new methods have been developed that involve fish, macroinvertebrates, aquatic plants and the stream conditions associated with them. Biomonitoring methods include measurements of a community’s biochemical oxygen demand as well as any behavioural changes, or changes in growth, reproduction or mortality.

Macroinvertebrates are often used for these biomonitoring techniques because they have a well-known taxonomy, are easy to collect, are sensitive to a range of stressors and they have an overall value within their ecosystems. Common chemical stresses to freshwater biomes include eutrophication, acidification as well as metal and pesticide contamination.

Ok then the meaning of live is its value and purpose.
But maybe that's redundant. I want to reduce redundancies.

What of only value and purpose? Or value in purpose or something like that.

I like to define it via purpose so much, because it also describes that life is a process, which feeds itself, meaning, it keeps itself existing and simultaneously provides the platform of that what our nervous system developed as an 'I'. This feeds back into the first (keeping itself alive/existing).
How can value ad in there ?

OK so why exactly should we care about the environment again? You see, you've fallen into a logic of hedonism, you care about the environment because it makes you feel good, and then you die. I destroy the environment because it makes me feel good, then I die. There is no difference if there is nothing sacred about the environment that would mean enjoyment grounded in destroying the environment is wrong.

the environment is constantly supplying you with life.. Fungi created soil by eating rock and producing a nutrient waste, this waste product supported the evoIution of plants and eventually the air we breathe.

If you don't care about your existence or any others you know of then I don't see it a problem but I find that hard to believe.

You don't have to care about the environment but I'd recommend you do to at least a level of awareness about it. If the pursuit of pleasure is wrong then sure you can say I'm hedonistic but I prefer to call myself an organic deist that sees the idea of god as the concept of mother nature and the processes that occur throughout it to provide us with the resources we need to survive.

Simply said I care about the environment because it supplies all that I have, and all that I am.

And hey I don't mind kicking down a few old trees and smashing up an ants nest, but I think it does become an issue when millions of hectares of rain forest are removed and sustainable land and water management practices for agriculture or forestry are not ensued.

I think this is what happens when the sanctity of our air is ignored.

Hmm, then I think value is some sort of interpretation and comes later than any purpose.
Purpose is like on or off, value seems like a gradient.
But somehow they are intermingled. Still needs some thoughts to find out how ...

Ok, took a while but I got it.

Purpose comes first, as it categorizes something, if it is there or not.
Value is after finding that category, to evaluate the amount of purpose...

Value of life is based on perception. Purpose of life just is.
Until we can percieve something larger to compare or existence and all be aware of it...

I feel the question would be better asked as what is the point of consciousness because living is not what we do its just what happens. Well we are made of life and we live our own lives that are together but separate.

This question is a bitch because the only answer is the question itself, you're asking how to answer your own question, you already know the answer to the question because you just asked it.

Asking an answer and receiving a question?

*mumbling garble*

It seems to me we are alive to provide food and stuff to our cells and continue expanding outward through consciousness. or at least our bodies are alive (made of life, that lives to feed themselves and each other, and provide us with body to perceive our world) to feed ourselves and continue living and expanding consciousness and reproducing, most likely eventually evolving to start another fractalized version of life, living to live and expand

There's nothing necessarily wrong with your environmental hedonism. It's just empty in way that most people would find intolerable. But if it works for you then more power to ya

That's vapid of you to say, and what is hard work in the eyes of hedonism? What is achievement, strive, desire? Pleasure is nice and all but there's more to life than it alone.

Is purpose not the intended result?

Like forming a value from an understanding of personal/cultural/environmental meaning.

Purpose is the driving force of existence' and is not required to be seen to exist. Value is an interpretation of purpose and the purpose in question must be seen to place value upon.
