Anyway I've known religious people that are basically homophobic that I used to be friends with and I'm curious if you would defriend people that had homophobic or racist views?

Also I say this with the chance that some here may sure those views but I'd imagine it's in the minority here.

What's a homophobic or racist view?

Many religious people are taught that homosexuality is a sin, is that a homophobic view?

Many minorities want "safe spaces" that exclude whites from being present, is that a racist view?

Theoretically racist on basis of discrimination
in practical sense, they will kick out any minority that expresses views they oppose
so it's racism when they announce it, but they care more about being agreed with

Naturally tho, true to form, such representation of safe spaces
is a hijacking and bastardization of the actual purpose of safe spaces
which is a conception to help military veterans and rape survivors in dealing with PTSD

so if the group were a support group for minority individuals
who had been victims of rape at the hands of white people
then there would be a quite legitimate ground for such a safe space to hold said stipulations
but more typically it is a sphere of political "debate"
where opposing views are not actually debated against

In Skyrim terms, they would probably be a cross between the Imperials and Thalmor

As for viewing homosexuality as a sin,
does not seem particularly homophobic in itself,
since sinning is individual,
so other people being homosexual would have no negative impact on such beliefs
and the individual could freely respect and interact with homosexuals
and just not take part in homosexual activity himself or herself

unless they avoid interacting with homosexuals as a result of said view,
at which point the question to be asked would be
are they afraid that they are going to catch Sin from being around or interacting with someone else?

How a person feels about gay people concerns me as much as gay people:  Zero.  I have other things to worry about in my life than either, and I doubt I'd be anything more than an acquaintance to someone who cares so much about homosexuality.

yes.

I have known many gay people who are cool and ive even dated a bisexual girl so dont start thinking that i hate gay people. It's a sin though plain and simple and we have freedom of religion. are people supposed to go against their god because you cant stand the thought that someone, somewhere disapproves? just leave them alone and live your own life.

A christian bakery was fined for not participating in a same sex wedding. their business was actually harmed because they refused to go against their religion. they were not the only bakery in town. the couple could have got a cake at another bakery. they chose to hurt these people financially. They went looking for a bakery that wouldnt do it.

I used to judge my friend for saying homosexuality is a sin. looking back I was definitely the asshole.

all these words like homophobe, sexist, racist and the two most important these days transphobe and Islamophobia are just used to claim the moral high ground and make people who you disagree with look like a bad person. its for people who dont have facts so they use their feelings as arguments.

all this emotion based politics is taking over. you could say something 100% true and have sources for your claim but if it offends someone you can still get in trouble with PC lunatics. hate facts are a thing.

OP do you think that anyone who disapproves of homosexuality is a bad person? it seems like thats what this thread is suggesting or else why wouldnt you be friends with them?

I don't think everyone against homosexuality are bad people but I do have a dislike for religious dogma in general. Also about the bakery I totally agree you shouldn't force them to make the cake, that seems a little absurd to me.

Also about facts vs. feelings, I sometimes think that is the case for religious people. Many of them are emotionally attached to it but don't always have rational arguments to prove their religion is right. But I respect people's choice to believe what they want so long as they don't harm others.

I can't stand people that talk shit about other people. Behind their back in a judgemental way.

I have had friends and family view certain races and LGBT in unfavorable lights. They can believe whatever the hell they want so long as they let me believe whatever the hell I want without harassing me about their views.

It all boils down to one simple thing: Respect

You can view gay people as deep unholy filthy sinners
You can view black people as thugs and lazy bastards that look to take advantage

Just show some respect when you come face to face with a gay person or a black person. And don't bring it up if you don't want me to tell you your wrong.

Alot of people seem not to realize these days that you do not HAVE to open your mouth. You can easily shut the fuck up and keep your thoughts to yourself.
If you're capable of that we will be alright. We might even become good friends.

It can be beneficial to not to get hung up on the terminology used,
focus on the underlying tactics
the words used will change with time and scenario, the approach will not

Your highlighting of Islamophobia is particularly valuable to consider,
as 'Islamophobia' is technically in contrast to the others
and it is possible to get into a situation where someone brands you Islamophobic
for pointing out that particular Islamic values may be homophobic, sexist, or transphobic

unless you get worried about feeling too much like an asshole
for judging Islamists for what they view as sinful

Hillary Clinton was against gay marriage as late as 2013 and Obama was at one point aswell. Trump is the first president to be pro gay marriage from the start i believe.

so the US gets its first president thats for gay marriage and all of a sudden homophibia is the worst thing ever?where did that come from? its stil a controversial issue in reality. its just that people are usually silenced by people who claim to be victims when they share their opinions.

thats not what i meant by the feelings thing. im saying people try to label others as bad people for disagreeing with them. Most Christians and Jews dont do that. in fact Christians especially are usually very accepting and try to share their views with people and tell them about their beliefs because they want to help people. PC people with dox you, try to get you banned from twitter like Milo Yiannopoulos (I dont agree with everything milo says but he doesnt say anything factually incorrect he just offends people) or try to get your job taken away. that last one is very common. https://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/15/magazine/how-one-stupid-tweet-ruined-justine-saccos-life.html stupid jokes can even get people in trouble. it looks like this girl was actually mocking ignorant racists with her joke and she got in trouble as if she were serious.

anyway its the attacking of people's character because you disagree with them that is bad.

also how do you know they dont have reasons for believing what they believe? what specifically are you talking about?

if you mean something silly like Jews not shaving their beard or side of their head with a razor then thats just faith but there are secular arguments for plenty of religious beliefs. not every religious person just cites to the bible. i know there are people out there who dont believe in evolution and stuff but thats not what all religious people are like.

I'm against a lot of the PC stuff going on. I agree about Trump. I think there's reasons to be concerned about him but I agree the media mostly ignored that he actually held an LGBT flag by his rallies and just tried character assassinating him in place of focusing on the issues.

By beliefs and rational I just mean at the base of why people believe in religion, the arguments I've heard for it aren't great. But I accept religious people. Much of my family is religious so it wouldn't make sense for me to be against all religious people but as an ideology I am pretty against it though.

trying to make someone look like a bad person is the underlying tactic. those words are the way they implement that tactic. those words are literally the only way that tactic is implemented as far as I can tell. what else am i supposed to say?

if you're pro life you are sexist

if you are christian you are homophobic

if you show statistics on what percentage of Muslims in the west support sharia law, think homosexuality is unacceptable,  think suicide bombings are sometimes or often justified or hate people of other religions then you're Islamophobic. https://fanghornforest.wordpress.com/hate-facts/

thats literally what people do. like exactly what they do. what am i supposed to say if i dont mention terminology? they call you names which devalue your character. thats literally exactly what the do.

I'm not super pro Trump. He is good in some ways but i dont really like him very much to be honest and im not trying to defend him or anything. that post really had nothing to do with Trump im just saying your first president to support gay marriage just got into office so its still very clearly a controversial issue or it would have already been settled.

the arguments for what? the base of why people beleive in religion? what does that mean?

what arguments have you heard? you are calling someone's argument irrational and you arent even stating the argument. you are calling nothing irrational.

i do honestly want to hear why you feel that way but i dont understand what exactly you find irrational. Really all you can say (without stating a specific argument that you think is irrational) is that you arent religious. if you want to call religion irrational you need to be specific about what is irrational.

if you dont want to discuss it then thats fine you dont have to reply. im just curious about what exactly you mean.

Basically from my view if someone claims that X religion is the reason for the creation of the world I'd want to see some solid proof of that.

I've debated many religious people and they always have odd answers from my perspective on why they thinj their religion is right.

For example a cousin of mine said that religion for him is about his relationship with God. I asked where the proof of a religious God is and he basically gives me abstract answers such as he can feel it. To me that doesn't prove anything. I'm sure a Muslim also could feel deeply that Allah is the creator of the world.

mother one is that God gave us the bible and choose us at Mount Sinai. Okay that sounds nice but now God just went into hiding?  I guess in the most simple way I'm saying that I don't see real evidence for religion.

Another one is Noah's Ark. How come we haven't found any fossils from it if someone claims the bible is real?

I'm basically saying from a rational perspective I don't find proof of religions claims being true.

My dad is a racist and a bigot...hates gays, blacks, muslims, pokes jokes at other races too.  It's really starting to get to me.  I know I'm not answering your question OP.  I'm more trying to get answers for myself.  Like "What would you think of your bigoted dad if you were a very tolerant person who hates bigotry?"  If you took away the bigotry, he still wouldn't be a "perfect father" but I wouldn't be complaining much at all.  He'd be better than most if you minused the bigotry.

Where I'm at right now in life.
