2 Yr Old Spore Prints, No growth for 14 days.

Made 5 Puerto Rican Syringes, 5 Hawaiian Syringes. All from 2 year old spore prints, there were in an altoids tin, just found them a couple weeks ago.

Syringes were made in accordance with the most demanding sterility specs.

I innoculated 5 pf jars with Puerto Rican, no dice, 14 days ago, and not even a single sign of life.

5 Days ago, 5 pf jars and popcorn innoculated with Hawaiian, no dice either.

They?re in an incubator which stays in the 80-81 degree range.

Should I keep waiting for these kids or should I look around for new spore prints?

bump that temp up to 86 and just wait, mine where 3 years old and took awhile as well.

Yeah, it's a waiting game.

Also, you might want to check viability of your spores in some liquid (Karo or dextrose). You should see germination a bit faster, and if they fail to germinate in there, the jig is up.

Did you let the spores re-hydrate for a day in the syringe
before you shot the jars?

Alright, I switched from the utterly useless heated jar incubator to a tub-in-tub. Temps are now teasing around 86.

Syringes: I let the puerto ricans sit a day, and I let the hawaiians sit 2.

Viability: I know at least some of the spores should be viable, I had the very last remains of a golden teacher print in the same altoids container, i dumped it into a little bonsai tree with some left over grain and mycelium took started appearing within 3 or 4 days. Unless golden teacher spores are known to be more durable than other strains' spores.

Do you think I can avoid the karo techs? (Where I live, things like corn syrup are imported from another hemisphere, and are prohibitively priced.)

It gets kinda dicey when spores are that old , but you should gets some sort of germination , just give it some more time , watch for contams , and keep those temps around 86 . It is good you waited a day or two before inoccing . But just to be on the safe side , prep some more jars and use some fresher sproes . IMO agar is best chance to get some germination with prints that old , but even then it takes more time than normal . Once saw spores take a month to germ on agar , almost tossed them in trash when low and behold white fuzz was apperaing , and once it did it was like wild fire .

I have some new Ecuador and B+ prints coming in.

Hopefully I'll have some growth before they get here, since I have something like 18 jars in the incubator.

My jars look totally and completely sterile. Its quite a depressing sight.

I still check them twice a day. But everytime hope diminishes...
