OUTSIDE RESIDENTIAL GROW. CAUGHT!
    #23625882 -

My brother grew 12 plants in his backyard in the open in Thornton CO. The cops were called on him and the police want to visit him in the morning to count how many (he has the limit of 12). He is worried about the fine(s) if there is any. I tried a quick search but can't find anything on the fine. Anyone got info for me to tell him? They are coming to check tomorrow morning at 8am.

That's ok as long as there is no jail and/or fine, got any info on that? He really did not read in detail the parameters for growing residential. Got any info or links for me?

I don't really know anything about the laws but I'm curious now. You say the limit is 12 and he has 12, so what's the deal?

I don't even live there. Just documentaries. The ones i saw get busted got a slap on the wrist and made to take their plants down. Definitely not jail. lol A fine is pretty likely though.

Probably from growing them out in the open

Yep, the police told him a greenhouse needed to be a certain size and secured by locks as well. They came today and told him they would be back tomorrow morn at 8am. I wonder if he just kills them all if there would any more trouble or fines? I can't find anything and I don't feel like calling, lol. I'll tell him to call if has the time today.

Does anyone think if he just tears them down there will be nothing done at all?

Plants have to be in a lockable enclosure to keep it legal here in CO...greenhouse that locks..but your neighbors can complain about the smell..here in Aurora it's a code violations problem..probably be fines involved..but hopefully not...not sure if tearing them down would help..it might or it may make him look guilty..especially if the neighbors took pictures...

Yep, the complaint was the smell. Know where I can find out about fines? Know if he just kills them before tomorrow if it will go away?

That's a bummer. My brother went to jail for a few small seedlings, cops never found his room that he had dry walled off, only access was to crawl under his bed and squeeze in through a small opening. I was the one who had to tear down his set up when the cops said they were coming back. Was a sad day.

Good luck op

Idk man, murdering cops usually ends pretty badly for the people who did it. :smilingpuppy:

But really  "They came today and told him they would be back tomorrow morn at 8am" at the very most I would think it would just be a fine or they would of arrested him on the spot, how much the fines will go for I have no idea though.

OK, he just called and said he called a number they gave him. The guy told him there would most likely be no fines as it was a first offense and there are A LOT of people getting caught due to not reading the parameters of the growing law. He will have to show them the plants so they can count them and then he will get a court date that he has to attend. The guy assured him that no fines will be given, but you never know. Either way he is not incarcerated, YAY, progress! (of sorts)

Can he just make a quick, cheap greenhouse and throw a lock on it. You should look into simple DIY greenhouse videos.

But there's a court date...is he going to face criminal charges?
