Pride of Cucamonga! Love that song. Did they ever play that song live?
Foolish Heart
Carve your name, carve your name in ice and wind Search for where, search for where the rivers end, Or where the rivers start Do everything that's in you you feel to be your part, Never give your love my friend, Unto a foolish heart, unto a foolish heart.
Dare to leap, leap from ledges high and wild, Learn to speak, speak with the wisdom of a child, Directly to the heart Call yourself the king of clowns or stand way back apart, But never give your love my friend, Unto a foolish heart, unto a foolish heart.
Shun a friend, shun a brother and a friend Never look, never look around the bend, Or check the weather chart Sign the Mona Lisa with a spray can, call it art, But never give your love, my friend, Unto a foolish heart, unto a foolish heart

nope they never played it live but they did play unbroken chain and i was there in philly when they busted it out the whole place cried. one of the most magical moments of my life
UNBROKEN CHAIN lesh/peterson
blue light rain well unbroken chain looking for familiar faces in an empty window pane
listening for the secret searching for the sound but i could only hear the preacher and the baying of his hounds
willow sky i walk and wonder why they say love your brother but you will catch it when you try
roll you down the line boy drop you for a loss ride you out on the cold railroad and nail you to a cross
november and more as i wait for the score there tellin me forgivness is the key to every door
a slow winter day a night like forever sink like a stone float like a feather
lilac rain, unbroken chain song of the saw-whet owl out on the mountain, it`ll drive you insane listening to the wind howl
unbroken chain of sorrow and pearls unbroken chain of sky and sea unbroken chain of the western wind unbroken chain of you and me

Some fall
Some climb

Saw it live at least once.

Loose Lucy
Loose Lucy is my delight, she come runnin' and we ball all night, round and round and round and round and round and round and round, don't take much to get me on the ground.
She's my yo-yo, I'm her string, listen to the birds on the hot wire sing, yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing, "Thank you, for a real good time!"
I got jumped coming home last night, Shadow in the alley turned out all my lights, round and round and round and round and round and round and round, don't take much to get me on the ground.
Loose Lucy, she was sore, says I know you don't want my love no more, yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing, "Thank you, for a real good time!"
Be-bop baby how can this be? I know you been out a' cheating on me, round and round and round and round and round and round and round, don't take much to get the word around.
Cross my heart and hope to die, I was just hanging out with the other guys, yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing, "Thank you, for a real good time!"
Went back home with two black eyes, you know I'll love ya till the day I die, round and round and round and round and round and round and round, don't take much to get the word around.
I like your smile but I ain't your type, don't shake the tree when its fruit ain't ripe, yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh-yeh yeh, singing, "Thank you, for a real good time!"

This is fun. I could post Dead songs all day long.
Did any of you read the recently released "What A Long Strange Trip" by Dennis Mcnally? I'm about 1/4 of the way through and I think it's amazing. I didn't know Bob stopped taking LSD intentionally in 1967! I guess he just couldn't handle it. I just read about how Pigpen, who wouldn't touch psychedelics, was secretly dosed at an acid test. The Dead had to perform that night without him. The more I read about the lives of the people in the Dead family, the more I realize how lackluster my life is. Maybe that will change some day.
Black Peter
All of my friends come to see me last night I was layin' in my bed and dyin' Annie Bonneau, from Saint Angel, Say the weather down here, so fine
Just then the wind came squalling through the dark But who can the weather command Just want to have a little peace to die And a friend or two I love at hand
Fever roll up to a hundred and five Roll on up, gonna roll back down One more day, I find myself alive Tomorrow, maybe go beneath the ground
See here how everything lead up to this day And it's just like any other day that's ever been Sun goin' up and then, the sun, it goin' down Shine through my window and my friends they come around Come around, come around
The people might know, but the people don't care That a man can be as poor as me Take a look at poor Peter, he's lyin' in pain Now, let's go run and see Run and see.

No I have to pick that up...last book I read was Blair Jacksons latest about Jerry. So little is written about Bobby though.....I did read about the incident with Pig at the acid test in another book though.
This is fun I love Hunters lyrics

Attics of My Life
In the attics of my life Full of cloudy dreams unreal Full of tastes no tongue can know And lights no eye can see When there was no ear to hear You sang to me
I have spent my life Seeking all that's still unsung Bent my ear to hear the tune And closed my eyes to see When there were no strings to play You played to me
In the book of love's own dream Where all the print is blood Where all the pages are my days And all my lights grow old When I had no wings to fly You flew to me
You flew to me
In the secret space of dreams Where I dreaming lay amazed When the secrets all are told And the petals all unfold When there was no dream of mine You dreamed of me

Box of Rain
Look out of any window any morning, any evening, any day Maybe the sun is shining birds are winging or rain is falling from a heavy sky - What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago Walk out of any doorway feel your way, feel your way like the day before Maybe you'll find direction around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you - What do you want me to do, to watch for you while you're sleeping? Well please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too
Look into any eyes you find by you, you can see clear through to another day I know it's been seen before through other eyes on other days while going home -- What do you want me to do, to do for you to see you through? It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago
Walk into splintered sunlight Inch your way through dead dreams to another land Maybe you're tired and broken Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear What do you want me to do to do for you to see you through A box of rain will ease the pain and love will see you through
Just a box of rain - wind and water - Believe it if you need it, if you don't just pass it on Sun and shower - Wind and rain - in and out the window like a moth before a flame
It's just a box of rain I don't know who put it there Believe it if you need it or leave it if you dare But it's just a box of rain or a ribbon for your hair Such a long long time to be gone and a short time to be there

dennis mcknally`s book is great he does as good of a job as you can do with words to explain something so sacred. he is a dr. of history and was asked by jerry to document the dead. rock scully`s book was total trash. a junkies perspective that made the dead seem like just another drug crazed rock band. no wonder he`s not allowed in the scene anymore. i wish they would burn every copy of that book. hopefully the future heads that want to learn about the dead will read mcknally`s book

Sugaree
When they come to take you down When they bring that wagon 'round When they come to call on you And drag your poor body down
Just one thing I ask of you, Just one thing for me Please forget you knew my name, My darling Sugaree
Shake it, shake it sugaree, Just don't tell them that you know me Shake it, shake it sugaree, Just don't tell them that you know me
You thought you was the cool fool Never could do no wrong You had everything sewed up tight. How come you lay awake all night long?
Well in spite of all you gained You still have to stand out in the pouring rain One last voice is calling you And I guess it's time you go
Well shake it up now Sugaree, I'll meet you at the jubilee And if that jubilee don?t come, Maybe I?ll meet you on the run
Just don't tell them that you know me

I agree. I read Scully's book and a lot of it sounded fabricated. Mcnally's book, on the other hand, is so intelligently written and you can tell he did some serious research. He not only captures the events that happened, but also the thoughts and philosophies of people that shaped the culture. It's fascinating.

Why isn't Rock allowed in the scene anymore?

he was a negative infuence on jerry. he was his junkie buddy. jerry would have used herion even if rock wasn`t around, but he was seen as a bad seed. he also used alot of the deads expense money poorly and was thought of as a thief. his book was written for the wrong reasons and is full of stuff that never happened. hunter and lesh were pissed when it came out and urged everybody not to by it. he basicaly sold the dead out. bear has also gone on record saying the book is bullshit. the dead was a sacred, magical band. i feel they were the most important event in mankinds history. i truelly believe this. and rock publicly trashed them. if he came within a mile of the scene he would be beat senseless

Eyes Of The World
Right outside this lazy summer home you ain't got time to call your soul a critic no. Right outside the lazy gate of winter's summer home, wond'rin' where the nut-thatch winters, wings a mile long just carried the bird away.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world, the heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own. Wake now, discover that you are the song that the mornin' brings, But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenin's and songs of it's own.
There comes a redeemer, and he slowly too fades away, And there follows his wagon behind him that's loaded with clay. And the seeds that were silent all burst into bloom, and decay, and night comes so quiet, it's close on the heels of the day.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world, the heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own. Wake now, discover that you are the song that the mornin' brings, But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenin's and songs of it's own.
Sometimes we live no particular way but our own, And sometimes we visit your country and live in your home, sometimes we ride on your horses, sometimes we walk alone, sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world, the heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own. Wake now, discover that you are the song that the mornin' brings, But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenin's and songs of it's own.

Stella Blue
All the years combine,
They melt into a dream,
A broken angel sings from a guitar.
In the end there's just a song
Comes cryin' up the night
Through all the broken dreams and vanished years.
Stella Blue. Stella Blue.
When all the cards are down,
There's nothing left to see,
There's just the pavement left and broken dreams.
In the end there's still that song
Comes cryin' like the wind.
Down every lonely street that's ever been
Stella Blue. Stella Blue.
I've stayed in every blue-light cheap hotel,
Can't win for trying.
Dust off those rusty strings just one more time,
Gonna make them shine, shine
It all rolls into one
And nothing comes for free,
There's nothing you can hold, for very long.
And when you hear that song
Come crying like the wind,
It seems like all this life was just a dream.
Stella Blue. Stella Blue.

He's Gone
Rat in a drain ditch
Caught on a limb
You know better, but I know him
Like I told you
Like I said
Steal your face right off your head
And now he's gone
Now he's gone, Lord he's gone
He's gone
Like a steam locomotive
Rolling down the track
He's gone, gone, and nothing's gonna bring him back
He's gone
Nine mile skid
On a ten mile ride
Hot as a pistol but cool inside
Cat on a tin roof
Dogs in a pile
Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile
Going where the wind don't blow so strange
Maybe off on some high cold mountain range
Lost one round but the price wasn't anything
A knife in the back and more of the same
Same old
Rat in a drain ditch
Caught on a limb
You know better, but I know him
Like I told you
Like I said
Steal your face right off your head
Ooh, nothing's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothing's gonna bring him back
Ooh, nothing's gonna bring him back
