Pressure Cooker Intructions

I just bought a pressure cooker from a second hand store. 10 bucks! good deal right! too bad i don't know how to work it. Its the type that has a black nob ontop that you lift up to relese the steam and pressure i guess. Also on the lid is an orange little stick thing. I havn't no idea what that could be for. If someone could direct me into the way that i would be able to use this pressure cooker and how i go about achieving 15psi. Fill your cooker no more than 1/3 full of water and bring to a boil.  Put on the lid without the jiggler on top.  When full steam shoots out of the hole on top you can put the jiggler piece on.  When the jiggler comes to full rattle reduce temp to med but keep the jiggler at full rattle.  Some pressure cookers are only rated to 10psi so I don't know what you have.  That little orange thing is the pressure safety valve.  If the hole on top of the lid gets blocked the pressure will build up inside the cooker.  Rather than explode it shoots the steam out of the safety valve.  Some are a wax-like material that melts and needs to be replaced.  Some just pop out and work over and over.  Make sure the gasket is clean and not torn before you use it.  When you are done let the pressure die down and then take off the jiggler and let it cool before you open it up.  Be safe!!!!  :heart:+ :syringe:= :eek:
