Pressure Cooker Go BOOM?
    #912972 - 09/27/02 05:42 PM (22 years, 21 days ago)

Alright, so my buddy got his pressure cooker in the mail, Its an OLD 921 AA. On the top its got the pressure gauge and I assume a weight, that can be screwed up or down. I assume this acts as a pressure release? So he wants to do a test run but is a little timid, for he's never worked with them before, and has heard they can be quite mean. Anybody got and precautions my buddy should make on this endevour into the unknown?

Try to hunt down the manufacturer for directions on using the pc first. Read those and it shouldn't go boom unless it doesn't have a way to release the pressure??

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

funny, i just bought a 16q "Maid Of Honor" today at goodwill for $13. holds seven quarts, and has the little screw thing for the pressure release. Doing the first test run today it took a long time for the pressure to get up. i had the screw all the way in. then i heard it start to boil and the pressure started to rise. i came back 5 minutes later with the guage reading 18psi so i unscrewed it a bit and let the pressure slowly drop to 15. then i tightened it a little to keep the pressure at 15. it went up and then i would unscrew it, let it drop slowly, then tighten it a little. its hard to get a good setting that keeps it at 15 psi. but for the last 20 minutes i had it at 15 psi without having to adjust it. all it takes is a little practice. You shold watch it and make sure you get the hang of it.

Right on, good find. Well I went to google and searched for "All American pressure cookers instructions", and so far I aint found shit. If anyone knows the All American website address that would be a great help. Thanks again.

Make sure you check the gasket for wear or rotting. Also make sure the vent tube is not clogged at all and that nothing is loose. It would be wise to get a hold of a manual for that particular model though.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the larger ones with a metal to metal seal. You may have to write or call the maker to get a new manual. Here is the address I found, hope it's the right one....

if the PC goes boom you can be shredded by flying snarpal. mine has 3 pressure release points, the normal route which is the top weight, the emergency top cap and the emergency side rubber

snarpels are flying projectiles, usually metal fragments propelled at high speed by an explosion, like a bomb, mine, or in this case, by intense internal pressure
