we haven't 'evolved' in the traditional sense. It's pretty simple, those who are educated and taught to respect diversity and personal rights, and feel that their basic human needs are met, will be nicer more easy going and accepting people. That is to say, they have the privilege of being born in a decent and stable country, and it leads to better people. The folks in the middle east have just as much humanity within them, the problem is the realities of life, and the traditions of their religion hold them back.

You'd be surprised how much we have evolved in the past 500 years. "Culture feeds back into the genome". Modern society has actually made us more trusting because  we no longer have to rely on our tribe for whatever reasons. There's plenty of evidence to back this up.

It's not exactly the easiest thing to do, but if I could I would expatriate to a country that has social programs and laws that are more aligned with my personal ethos like Norway or something.

As a former riflery instructor I felt the need to point out that the shooter did not have as much knowledge/training as Thayendanegea stated, mainly due to his choice of weapons and his strategy. This is important to understanding the story because it shifts the shooter away from being a trained terrorist and more to him being someone with a mental disorder that went crazy. BTW, the 7.62x39 is more lethal that the 5.56x45 (1653 ft-lbs vs 1295 ft-lbs respectively), and an AK-47 would be a far better gun for the enclosed environment that he was shooting in.

deadly than the other, lethality is in the shooter and a .22 will kill you just
as dead as a .50, one just makes a bigger mess

150 yards, my ARs could do 4" groups at 400 and my remington can shoot 1" at
800 if I use had loads, maybe 3" groups with factory ammo.
