Your feeling is most likely accurate since you live in a country that's only 1% Muslim, that fact doesn't make Islam anymore favorable for people in your position.

Go to a EU city that's 20% Muslim, once again you would be running back to the safe "American Christian" nation that you take for granted.

And in what religion do we find more extremists in today?  Even "moderate" Muslims have extremist views relative to Western values.
