yoga tips

ive been doing my own type of "yoga" for a while now, basically just stretching whatever i feel needs to be stretched. the only stretches i really know are the ones i remember from high school P.E. though. i want to take my yoga to the next level, or should i say, an actual level, because i dont actually know any type of yoga.

i think someone suggested a yoga for dummies book to me in another thread, but im intelligent enough to handle advanced reading material.

any solid suggestions on books/guides?

do you have an iphone? The app "yoga studio" is 3$ and basically keeps you with enough stuff to advance for about a year. From there you need to get classes or get a book and master handstand, planche, and more complex stuff

Yo this is really random but I have been doing yoga daily for about 9 months now. And goddamn. I can't even explain how much about yourself you learn. Or how differently your body functions. I thought it was just stretching and feely bullshit. But goddamn. My mind has been blown 100 times over by yoga. One of the best habits I have developed for myself

Been going to gentle yoga and tai chi the past two months, started a yoga level 1 paid for class about 6 weeks ago.  It has definitely helped improve my state of being.

I despise the "pay to play" atmosphere or the "its cool now" kinda' marketing yogas gotten in the western world....


lets take a 10000000% self-focused practice thats thousands of years old and make a profit!!

Hmmmm


If you want something that has instructions on postures + a well-rounded look at the overall philosophy, I would go Heart of Yoga by Deskichar. It also contains Deskichar's translation of the sutras, but eventually you'll want to invest in the Swami Satchitananda version.

ehhh, you just gotta find a good teacher to learn from, and then you'll feel good about giving them money for their time.  You also learn a lot from self-practices, it's where I learn them most about myself, but it's good to view the practice of yoga from another perspective.  I've learned some neat flows that I never would have put together.

I also have a top of the line yoga mat hehehe It's the shit :grin:

Edit: OP, find some teachers that you like on Youtube, learn some things, and then maybe go to some classes at different studios.
