bikram yoga
    #4021245 - 04/06/05 12:59 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

My girlfriend does bikram yoga 5x a week - usually at 6:30am - and she has been urging me to join her. Well I finally quit being lazy and I have gone every morning this week. I feel fantastic.

Bikram yoga is basically hatha yoga that is performed in a room set at about 105-110 degrees and very humid (about 50% humidity). You sweat profusely and the heat makes you more flexible. Very intense. Bikram yoga consists of 26 poses that comprehensively stretch and work the entire body. There are also periods of meditation that allow your mind to let go and be at peace.

I will continue to go - I wish to calm my monkey mind and improve my body. Anyone else practice yoga? I really recommend to you Shroomery brothers & sisters to check it out if you havent already

i've been wanting to practice yoga for some time now... but i can't find a decent place where to do it, and i can't find anyone to join me... might have to go alone, but it's so hard to get off your ass when you have to do things by yourself...

i do a south-indian form of hatha yoga about 3 times a week... unfortunately i'm a lazy cunt and never do it in the morning (when it really is best to do yoga), but instead around 9 in the evening. in fact, i've got to go in a few minutes for that exact purpose!

yes, it is hard. But once you get there, I believe you'll find all the support you'll need. look into man - I cannot believe I waited as long as I did to get involved

I have heard about Qi Gong, but not much. Hook me up with some info and I'll investigate. Thanks!

yeah, I love it. I am not sure if Bikram is 100% for me, but for now I am going with it. Bikram is designed with beginners in mind - for right now I am signed up for the next 2 months and I am going to try to go every morning. Good to see you starting yoga like me.

I always want to start but then I realise how inflexible my body is, it just puts me down. even if its a beginner course, I dont like the feeling that I'll be the most inflexible one and the one struggling the most to do the positions.

so you think it's better to just stay inflexible than to greatly improve your flexiblity?

I practiced Hatha Yoga for a couple of weeks when in India, the place where the Dalai Lama lives (MCLeod Ganj). I really liked it and it was cheap as hell. I am too lazy to continue when i got back home.
Now i was thinking about starting Tai Chi but i'm not sure yet as to where and how...

no, I'm just hoping I can gain a little bit more flexibility with exercises on my own, then start

For me balance is a much more important goal than flexibility though i wouldn't mind to be able to put my foot in my neck.

yeah, yoga is good, so is qigong, ive been doing both for 15-16 yrs now.

howerver... when it comes to bikram... the yogaworld is kinda divided. some think its really good, some think its stupid.

sure, doing yoga in that kind of heat and humidity, sort of replicates the situation in india. but to what good. ive been there and done that. spent a whole summer in rishikiesh doing yoga and sweating like a horse. its... its... well im not and advocate of that kind of yoga. i think its a distraction and that the added temperature/rh has few benefits. its supposed to make your muscles more streachable... but thats ultimately bs. because allthough it is true that it makes some muskles more streachable, that would be the surface layer muscles. but what matters for yoga are your core muscle, and their temperature rarely varies more than a centigrade (unless you got fever/hypothermia).

but then again.. better to do some yoga than none. if you cant convince your gf to go to a place that have ac... then stick with it.

I love yoga. I find it of great value to my life.
Meditation and yoga are key to my sanity. :tongue2:
They also give me the focus and energy to lead a very active life.
unfortunatly my back is acting up at the moment so i'm limited on
what I can do.
