9 or 10 qts of spawn and 1.5 bricks of coir. I could probably get away with 8 qts of spawn if I added more coir or some verm but I like high spawn rates. It's working out pretty good. I run 2 tubs a month for just over 2 dry pounds of cubs and I only have to do myco work 5 or 6 times per run.

That's crazy dude. I definitely will forego the poo and supplement the nutrition with a high spawn ratio. I assume you use 3q verm? I got me one of them 4cu ft bags of verm so I'll probably use 3q at a time and a huge brick of coir so probably ~1000g dry would be about to the same as 1.5 bricks.

I hope wal mart still has the same bin I'm using right now I wish I had bought at least one more because it's totally the perfect size and shape and it was only 7$ on sale

I don't use any verm at all. Just oats and coir. No verm, no gypsum, no nothing. I'm just trying to keep it as basic as it can get.

No kidding, that's badass. You've clearly been having good results so I guess all that shit is really just extra.

do you use the same amount of water every time? I guess I'm still having trouble with FC (even though I really thought I had that pinned down)

Have you been doing the fruiting at spawning with a top layer? I know that your holes don't have poly in them but do you cover with a coir casing at spawn?

Yeah I use 4 qts of water per brick of coir. So 6 qts per tub. I add a thin top layer of coir at spawning and introduce fruiting conditions right away. I used straight coir on a lot of grows when I was out of verm, manure, gypsum and whatnot. They were some of my best. So I said fuck all the other shit. BE isn't that good with these big tubs but they fit my closet perfectly and it's pretty easy to manage 2 substrates at a time.

u can use any whole grain for that, just make sure u know how to get the moisture content right

Yup they just need food, water and proper growing conditions. Grain is the food. Coir holds tons if water and a propperly dialed in mono provides the perfect balance of RH and FAE.

Is that red rtv silicon that you used to attatch the eco felt and do you still think this is the ideal fruiting chamber for bottles?

Also how do you grind the dog food? Coffee grinder? And do you just use the cheapest dog food or is there a specific kind that works best?

oats is the easiest thing to prep.
Soak ~24 hours, simmer/boil for 10 minutes or so
I usually pull a grain or two out and open the germ and check to see how much white starch there is inside, when most of it is gone I turn off the heat and then strain.
Pretty sure just about everybody will tell you that liners are a good thing, but in my experience genetics is just as big a factor. I get side pins on all of my tubs and I use liners so...I'm not going to stop using them but I think once you get a good clone/isolate they become less of a factor.

That's tuck tape not RTV. Yes a mono is still the best FC for bottles.

The coir based recipe in the OP gave me my best results. I guess I just forgot a few things in that poste you quoted.

Breaking up the coir is necessary for the reason you mentioned. I break it for normal bulk substrate too. It hydrates more evenly with less mixing when you break it up first. It's not really a PITA. If you split the brick along the grains with a knife or flat head screwdriver it only takes about 10 seconds.

My first bottle subs muda. Definitely not how you do them, but proof that the concept works. Getting some nice fruits.

This was just some leftover sub that I had pasteurized, 1 qt of sub split into the two and then mixed up. I think I used a drumstick or something, it was really hard to mix them without spilling it everywhere.

Last night I was about to go to bed when I remembered these dudes in my hidey hole.

Tried to pull them out in one chunk and they pulled so much sub with them. Terrible

So will any cheap grocery store dog food work? And how do you grind it up?

And should I do anything different if I use only oats for my grain(Leave out the whole wheat)?

I try to find the dog food with the lowest fat content but it probably  doesn't matter much. I use a ninja blender.

Leaving out the wheat won't make any real difference.
