Water bottle TEK (liquid myc)

Hey, i was thinkin and thinkin and eventually concocted a liquid mycelium TEK that used a plastic 500 ml or similar size pop bottle or waterbottle. Some blanks need to be filled in, so i'll let some of the experts help out. here it is.. 1) take empty water bottle, fill 1/2 with water (250ml) and add an adequate amount of honey, im thinking a tablespoon, but somebody who knows more can fill in the blank more accurately. 2) Squeeze the bottle until there is no more air inside and put the cap on. It should stay crumpled up and there should be no air inside. 3) Microwave for around 3-5 mins. The reason you squeezed the bottle before was to give the water room to boil and expand. Pop bottles are really strong and can stand lots of pressure so there should be no problem when doing this. 4) Leave in microwave and let cool. 5) Slowly open microwave, open bottle a crack and let air be sucked back into the bottle until its normal again. Reseal the bottle. 6) Nuke again for a couple minutes to quickly sterilize the air that u just sucked into the bottle. 7) Let cool 8) Sterilize room of inoculation. 9) open lid, squirt in spores, reseal, let sit for a week or so in dark place. Theres a few advantages to using this TEK. First of all, the bottle wont shatter, so you can seal it and microwave it. Also, when you inoculate, the surface area you are working with is the size of a quarter, so theres less chance of contams. And when you want to make myc syringes when your solution is nice and white, again there is less chance of contams. tell me what you think ;peace

Heat softens plastic bottles so they do not stand up to pressure in the microwave. Pop bottles shrink to about one fourth their original size and the tops no longer fit.

Also consider the toxins released by heating a plastic of any kind in the micro.(unless specifically labeled"Micro.Safe"...even then I don't believe the lyin' bastards!!)It's the same principle as heating those to-go styro boxes from your local diner, rest.,eating establishment. :) ~K~

I agree with MystrysAbsynth about the toxins, but why make it hard for yourself. If you could use plastic bottles (which Im not sure that you can) just make a cotton wool bung for the top. No need to resterilise!! please, if you do use a cotton wool bung - dont pack really tight -> it will seal and cause explsion go for depth. I dont wanna sound like an old woman but , we had a lady who melted agar in a microwave at work and had done for many years. On opening the door this fateful day, the bottle exploded - it looked like a letter box bomb had gone off, I was stunned at the damage. So please, take care!!! - hate to loose another monkEy D

BTW, i perfer using waterproof banding aids with microholes instead of normal tape, wich can wrinckle and melt under high temps. Also, this way the exceeding pressure will get out through the hole and banding aid Peace, MAIA
