So, the owner of billboards could do the same.

these assholes are so unlikable... they are going to need 2 billion dollars to make people like them.

Hillary may need more, she keeps shooting herself in the face.

No, not with the rules above:
Quote:
If a political statement is put in front of people, a majority of whom aren’t actively seeking it, then  the statement is an ad and is subject to individual contribution limits.

People seek out the New York times.  They don't seek out billboards.

But the majority of people who look at billboards are doing so to see what the billboard says.  How is that any different from a newspaper?  One has to actively look at a billboard just like one has to actively look at a newspaper.

How is looking at a billboard not "actively seeking"?

I've yet to see a billboard placed in my way.  I always have to turn to face it in some way.

im amused  that anyone is reading print news.

its been so long since i've seen a news source i trusted... i just read them all online. fox, al j, huff post...

i wouldnt want to pay any of them tho... they are all basically ads for one thing or another.

fox news is full of lies.
msnbc is full of lies.
huffington post is unapologetically liberal.
new york times is mostly liberal... but its weird as shit..i wish i understood the clockwork to that beast.

al jizz, and bbc, are pretty good...but neither are that IN DEPTH.

If I see a dead horse on the side of the road, that doesn't mean I'm actively seeking dead horses.

Same rules should apply to online content.

It does, however, mean that the horse wasn't "put in front" of you.

If you want billboards to fall under your test, though, that's fine.  How is the money spent calculated with billboards?  Cost of the ad?  Cost of the sign?  Cost of the real estate?  Electricity to light it?

Cost to the person paying for the political ad.

If that person already owns the billboard, then the cost is just what it cost to put that ad on that billboard?

in non profits we use two things ... comparable costs...and cost to you... depending on which way you want it to go.

i think it would be reasonable to do cost to you for billboards. if you own the realestate...the applicable depreciation/cost of opperation/taxes would be the most reasonable way to calculate it.

much like the supreme court... im rather torn on the issue.

spending on a candidate you like is free speech ... but if this free speech is buying policy...which is hard to prove and not that hard to see... its undermining democracy

it moves us from being a government of for and by the people.

to a government of for and by the rich.

i dont see this as ideal.

nor do i see it as conservative.

Any amendment would have the goal of not allowing people to cheat the system.  It makes perfect sense that comparable costs would be the standard, so that politicians/wealthy people don't buy up billboards to gain political advantage.

What about a billboard in the side of a truck. Does that include the cost of the truck?  The fuel? The driver? This assumes that the owner of the truck is the one controlling the content

Why would it be different if it was just noted that a comparable costs for ads standard should be applied?  Whatever truckers typically charge for ads on their trucks is the cost that should be applied to an ad on their own truck.  If that's under the per person spending limit, then fine.

Truckers don't typically have ads on their trucks except for advertising themselves.  Owners of trailers advertise their own products.

There is no typical cost, so what cost applies?  It's free?

So Covenant Transport, a trucking company that has "It is not a choice, it is a child" on the back of all of their trailers, would be in violation of this law.
