Yes, but they don't generally pay the Times to print something.  If they did, it would have to be within their individual contribution limit.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Define "employed"

Gets paid income to do work for.  Is there another definition?

What if the someone pays the times to have Michael Moore write an article for them. Its pretty obvious what he is going to write about, but if no one directly comes out and says it ahead of time then that would be exempt right?

So, if a person, not paid by the times, dictates the content of the times, and pays money to the times, that makes the content an advertisement.  Is that correct?

Almost.  If a person pays money to the times to dictate political content, then it is a political ad (I know we haven't gotten to the definition of "political" yet, but so far the definition of "ad" in "political ad" seems to work).

So anything political in the times is a political ad?

No.  Only if a 3rd party pays the times to have political content shown.

The owners of the times are a third party under your definition. And they pay for,  and control,  all of the content.

No, a 3rd party can't pay the Times for political content.

You don't think the Board of Directors gets paid by the company for actively participating in the decision making of the company?

No one would call an owner a 3rd party.  I should have defined "employed" above to mean "Gets income to do work for" rather than "Gets paid to do work for".  It's a very subtle difference, but I see you are more interested in semantics games than actually looking for weaknesses in the argument.

Now I've redefined 3rd party to what everyone else would define it as.  Happy now?

Owners don't get paid to do work.  They get paid for providing capital.

Another semantics game?  How are you in control of a company if you are a passive investor?  And if you're actively involved in a company, how are you not working for them?

You're saying an owner is employed by a company? That's ridiculous.

Ridiculous?  It's the law for corporations:

Quote:
If  you are the owner of a corporation, you own shares in that corporation.  If you do work for the corporation (and not just sit back and collect dividends), you get paid for that work as an employee.

The IRS says you must be paid a reasonable salary for that work; you can't just work for $1 a year...

Regardless, I'm not into semantics games.  The point is that an owner is not a 3rd party by any reasonable definition, even if you trick me into saying it.

Owners of corporations control the corporation.

So,  owners aren't third parties under your definition. ..good.  I don't know why you didn't start off saying that.

So,  by your test,  anyone who owns a newspaper can spend unlimited money on political speech,  correct?
