Esthetics - What can life be like?

Esthetics is the study of art. It includes what art consists of, as well as the purpose behind it. Does art consist of music, literature, and painting? Or does it include a good engineering solution, or a beautiful sunset? It also studies methods of evaluating art, and allows judgments of the art. Is art in the eye of the beholder? Does anything that appeals to you fit under the umbrella of art? Or does it have a specific nature? Does it accomplish a goal?

William S. Burroughs felt that the purpose of art is to show us "what we know and do not know that we know."

As for myself, all I can say is that I know it when I see it.  Perhaps defining what is or is not art is an art form itself.  One could say a million things.

Art is a passion that attributes a fascination of one’s curious imagination. I believe it takes our intellect on a tour of truth.

It is a uniquely “first person” phenomenon. My thoughts and feelings are my own, yours are yours, and all of theirs are theirs, and none of us has access to anyone’s but his or her own. One can observe behaviors associated with consciousness in others, but none of those affords any immediate intuition of the subjectivity that lies behind them.

One can conduct an exhaustive surveillance of all those electrical events in the neurons of the brain that are undoubtedly the physical concomitants of mental states, but one does not thereby gain access to that singular, continuous, and wholly interior experience of being this persons that is the actual substance of conscious thought.

The training of a beginner in martial arts begins with euphemism and then develops into an art form. Once the art becomes so close to perfection with practice over time, euphemism is conquered and a person demonstrates the ideals.An example would be

Did you watch the video of Buakaw? Would you call Buakaw a beginner? Would you call it "art" if he was doing that to a person?

I had an insight once, that art is 'cheating on god'.

See, everything in the universe follows a sum of physical laws, math probability, genetics etc. And then comes the human (or the primate, elephant... let's say the ARTIST :P) and does the unthinkable! He violates these rules and does something which seemingly serves no purpose in terms of survival and even takes up his energy. MORE than that, the product of the act is something that has never existed before in nature and does not follow the nature's laws but is a creation of the artist, meaning the artist just assumed god's position, however small he may be compared to the rest of the universe.

I watched the video of Buakaw. Buakaw is a beginner. What can be art to Buakaw? Much of what we can imagine here to be a reason to clear our senses is really only an interpretive reflect, determined by mental habits impressed in us by an intellectual and cultural history.

I argue Nuakaw is performing his art to that bag. His desire his fiercly displayed to attain truth in his art of a fighter. An art is a form of ideological legacy.

My consensus is Buakaw is the only one to call it "art" if he was doing that to a person, but then I'd ask him what's the goal? Buakaw is just a beginner with no goal, he "kicks".

If we created it, does it not follow that the art was made within the laws of nature?  We do come from nature after all, we are natural creatures.  Art has the purpose of attempting to share the unknown.

Yea I was thinking the same. Guess we can create a previously unseen sequence which gets a certain idea across but is created within the laws.

Question is, can we ever design something as complex as life.
