Apparantly many celebrated genius's were full celibates (didnt have sex other than to get kids, and didnt masturbate), I have (just) now decided to become one( a celibate) . I have spent short periods before as a celibate and it is great .
I remember once when I didnt indulge in sex fantasy, have sex, or masturbate for two weeks and I was high, I was way positive and confident plus I was really creative . Dont really know why I posted this other than to try to coax some other people into this,,,

How did you come to the conclusion that Da Vinci was celibate? He has a pretty outstanding history of sodomy with boys, the most notorious being his relationship with 17 year-old model Jacopo Saltarelli.
His relationship with Count Francesco Melzi, the 15 year old son of a Lombard aristocrat, was also a very erotic nature.
If you wish to be celibate, go for it, but Da Vinci isn't exactly the strongest reference you should cite

by this measure, I am sure most adult men with any respect would have declared themselves non-masturbatory celibates until the very recent past; although president Clinton may in fact admit that he did it, he probably would claim that he didn't spurt wastefully before a court of his celibate peers.

Celibacy makes me edgy and irritable, but to each his own

I've actually given some thought to going celibate. Sex has never been that big a deal for me. On the other hand, love has. I've been "celibate" for the past 2 1/2 years, and I'm dealing with it just fine. But I can't shake this strong belief that somewhere out there, I have a soulmate. If and when I find her, I'll be happy to put an end to my celibate streak, but until then, I have no particular interest in pursuing sex.

If I didn't give my libido an outlet, I'm afraid I might dash down into the street, pistol in hand, and fire blindly into the crowd.

Sex is a massive diversion and release of energy. It can be channeled and transformed for other purposes, like spiritual exploration or art. Many Buddhists are celibate for this reason. They use certain practices to transform that energy, they are not going around super horny all the time because they are abstaining from sex. They don't desire it, because that energy is in a different form now.

That's exactly what I was thinking too.

lol.. in more ways than one. be careful of seminal stones. Probably much like a kidney stone, but by description, much more painful (at least in context of the ego.. heh)

Are you suggesting that not ejaculating can cause health problems? I seriously doubt that.

I suggest you read a little more on the subject. Your body has it's own protection against such things, for example nocturnal emissions.

Nocturnal emmissions !? Do you mean wet dreams ? I have only twice had wet dreams and both times I was masturbating without cumming before sleeping and thinking of someone in the house sexually(not my house). I have not had this while being a celibate before - when with the proper attitude I have had no problems with it , what do you mean by nocturnal emissions ?
I read some stuff by a celibate yesterday who has suffered no ill effect
Protection agaisnt what ??
kotic have you ever been celibate before ? - other than as a kid

well to be clear, celibacy is not the same as semen retention, and its retention that can lead to health problems, not just in the form of seminal stones, but also relating to the prostate, etc.
Of course there are plenty of ways to avoid these risks. Also, as foolish as it may sound, "use it or lose it" certainly DOES apply to those who choose to be long-term celibates. Long term celibacy can lead to impotence, however short-term celibacy can actually prevent it. Somewhat of a paradox.

I completely dont beleive that long term celibacy can lead to impotence.
And when I say celibacy I mean what a vedic sage would - semen retention - that is the point of being a celibate, when you cum you lose lots of nutrients not to mention loads of chi/ki/prana/ineffable life energy.

right, I completely understand the entire concept, and I am not advising against it, as I recognize it as a useful practice, but why is it so hard to believe that after say, a lifetime of semen retention, it would have adverse effects on your physical body, especially pertaining to the functions you no longer use?
The human body changes every 10 years, depending on what it goes through (or in this case, doesn't go through)

And why is that? You have studied into the matter? Please provide some understanding that has brought you to opt to not believe this.
Or is it just a feeling you have?
 Peace.
