Psychedelic thinkers were overly optimistic about the internet, they forgot about yin and yang.

It's a tool like any other. If you use a hammer to hit yourself on the head, it's a poorly used tool.

It doesn't matter whether the internet is it doesn't matter whether the internet is regulated by the government or the 1% or not. It is self-regulated, and that is enough, because people are roughly the same regardless of their tax bracket. Some counterculture people have the idea that if the 99% had control, suddenly things would be better. The internet is proof positive that that is not the case. It just potentiates opportunity.

As interesting as McKenna was, and he was INTERESTING, he was wrong about a lot of major stuff that he proposed/theorized.  His time wave zero theory was a joke.  I think the psychedelic world loved McKenna because he came across as something of a credible and articulate intellectual but a lot of his ideas and advice (heroic doses!) were sketchy at best.  The internet and social media, if anything, has taken screen addiction to a MUCH HIGHER LEVEL and is certainly not a cure.

I thinm His time waVe theory had potential. I think it's just something way aheAd of its time therefore it is misunderstood or simply not developed enough.

I think he had some cool things to say, the only probLem was he wasn't exActly sure about the things he talked about..

Well, it does create opportunity. Like I said, it's a tool. Morphine is a tool. Use it wisely, it's a great tool. Abuse it, and it's bad news.

The cumulative time that all the screens in our lives consume is to me the bigger issue. Phones, tablets, computers and TV's.  When you add up all the hours at work, texting, watching TV, social media, videos, apps, games … For a lot of people it's over 10 hours a day of looking at and interacting with screens.

Considering we are all on a internet forum about drugs, I totally see your point. The internet is definitely not a cure for anything. "Cure" is a strong word and shouldn't be taken literally. People use hyperbole all the time.

I don't think he was just stating the obvious lifestyle effects tv can have (make you fat, sit around a lot, etc) but the mental effects it can have. It's brainwashing, plain and simple. A perfect outlet for systems of repetitive, subliminal marketing schemes and culture influence. Commercials and shitty tv sitcoms present bad morals and ethics as comedy like "it's alright".

At least the Internet is optimized for free-thinking. The internet is limitless in terms of sourcing out information. But a tv, it's all force fed, prioritized news,information, products, drugs, clothes, you name it. It's been like this for decades now.

Also, you would never hear about awesome mushroom grows and how to do it yourself through television. But, the internet.. Hmm..

So, I'm going to have to say the internet is pretty fucking liberating. It's not that bad of a quote, he just used hyperbole.

Atleast on the internet you have a A) an almost infinitely low entry difficulty - meaning everyones views can be shared with no hinderance... try and get your content on TV :lolsy: the content is extremely and tightly controlled. B) Tied into A, a much higher degree of freedom as to what is absorbed - due to adblocking apps etc. You can achieve similar freedom on TV through certain means (recording etc.) however the spectrum of possible info is much more narrow...

So imo, its more like going from being addicted to morphine to being addicted to MXE :rofl:

His quote rings truth, in that the internet has given people a choice and more freedom. That in itself is a 'cure' to the rigid closed controlled nature of the TV. Ya know. In a sense.

Yes, but ultimately the tv is in completely control of the yin and yang, as oppose to the internet where the user is in control of what exActly it is they want to read or watch.
