TV... the incessant TV
    #2612957 - 04/28/04 09:14 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

My roommate has the idiot box on constantly.  Practically the first thing he does in the morning.  Sometimes he'll turn the TV on, leave for an hour (during which time I'll turn the TV off), then come back and immediately turn that shit back on.  Half the time he's not even watching it.
Doesn't even seem to matter what:
random Tech TV shit, Home Improvement, Fresh Prince of BEl-Air
:nonono:

I can't stand it, it's distracting and annoying and abrasive.  Worst of all is when I'm trying to meditate and the TV is on.  Right now I have Mogwai blastin over it.  I'd rather listen to music and do some art or ANYTHING rather than stare at a goddamn TV.  It's starting to hurt my brain. :frown:

It doesn't help that all my stoner friends love to smoke up, munch out, and watch dating shows.  I can never escape TV's horrible grasp. :crying:

i refuse to watch bad TV. there is good TV and bad TV.

my philosophy is if its not teaching me anything or its not funny...then i dont watch it.

thats why i got a TiVo cause i was tired of being forced to watch shitty TV when i didnt have shit else to do.

good tv is

techtv
science channel
National geografic
dicovery
history
history inernational
travel
comedy central
and thats about it

i hate drama or anything like that
the only thing i watch on network tv is conan. But yeah i dont have speakers or anything for my computer anymore so i have to listen to music on headphones and that pisses me off. So ill just leave the tv on for some background noise a lot of the time.

but yeah its annoying to meditate when shit like that is around. I cant do it with the computer on or anything...i mena i can but i just dont like to. Once you get good at meditating you can do it no matter whats around...its jsut not preffered.

that sucks..my good friends roomate is worse, though. She watches shows such as seventh heaven, all the soap operas, all the reality shows, and the local news. All the time. I feel soo bad for my friend.

I watch maybe 1 hour per week. I have learned that without tv in my life, then I can actually live my life. Who knew?

Too true, whiterabbit.

I don't know, Jenny.  He watches Home Improvement, the OC, and Fox News... it's quite horrible.

when my former roommate and I went our different ways about 2 months ago, she took the tv cuz it was hers :-) I miss being able to watch movies with my girlfriend mostly... and playing vidya games. I can hang out with my neighbors to get my gaming fix though.

But since I don't have a TV, i've been able to do a lot more reading thatn I used to.

The fucking thing is addictive. My mom is kind of like that. I used to be. But, I fucking hate the thing now, yet im still drawn into watching some shows.

My wife used to do that. She would turn the TV on in the living room, then go into the dining/play room and sit ont he computer. She said she had to have some sort of background noise besides the screaming kids.

most ppl are like this,
most ppl use the background noise because they cant
stand silence.
silence = thinking.
& watching tv keeps the mind occupied away from thinking.
have you ever watched someone watching tv?

i dont watch tv anymore cuz
ive replaced that screen (tv) with this screen (monitor)
(im sure most of you have too)

A sceen projector is the thing.  I'm getting one of those, I think that a big screen like that will only cause you to watch less tv since its too fucking big and alot more apropriate for movies.
Imagine streaming audio and having some awesome winamp plugin playing on your wall... thats something worth having on all day and especially at parties :yesnod:

I haven't had a TV in years and it's a mixed bag for me. I mean my roomate and I didn't even know about Sept. 11th until 2 days after it happened!  On the positive side I have become a lot more selective about my viewing after realizing "there are infinite channels when you turn off the TV". :nut:
