Struggling with soberiety. I need someone to talk to.
    #21422578 -

Let me start with this. For the last 7 years I have been a habitual everyday marijuana smoker. Every day without fail, hadnt taken a break once. I am now a week and a half clean. I don't have an urge or craving as far as thats concerned. I am quitting for a drug test in a few weeks because im making a huge life decision and change in moving 4 hours away, picking up a new job, and going to college. I have to piss clean. Now, let me say this. Six months ago I lost the love of my life. Ive been drinking everyday since. Anywhere between 4-8 shots of whiskey a night. Now that i've been a week and a half clean of MJ I decided to stop boozing aswell. Heres my problem. I've been drunk for the last week and a half everynight which basically substituted as a buzz for pot. This will be day 2 of complete soberiety without an intoxicating substance and i'm mentally struggling. I have an addictive personality, it runs in my blood. Im forming justifications to run across the street and grab me a half pint or two. Such as "I'll get sober when I get up there." I'm struggling. Ive been wireweaving, trying to keep productive in my spare time off work but my mind is racing. I havnt been sleeping right. Ive been thinking about this stupid ass girl even though its been 6 months. I dont have a numbing agent. And i'm facing reality sober for the first time in 7 years. And struggling. I need some input from someone who understands. Someone to talk to. This is the hardest thing i've ever done in my life...

I would have to go into a detox if I drank that much for that long. You're going to have very noticeable withdrawal symptoms as you can probably notice by now. Alcohol w/ds are just starting to peak around the 2 day mark for me.

And you're doing this backwards. Every time I quit smoking before everything else, I end up smoking when I stop, or going crazy about wanting to.

Its taking every fiber of my being to resist. Ive never been completely sober. Not in 7 years. Ive always had something in my system. This is by far the hardest thing i'll ever do in my life. When will it get easier? What can I do to help? And i've had insomnia and been sleeping restlessly. Anything I can do to aid that? After I feel like im free from the grips of booze and pot I want to quit smoking cigarettes aswell. Live my life completely clean. And as fat as DTs and withdrawals - im not noticing anything physical. Its all mental. Psychological. And im struggling to resist, hard. The dependency is definitely there. Im just not used to living sober

dang I guess your last post answered my question. I've had to do the same thing too whenever I started going back to school. I had been high or drinking for about the same amount of time. you're doing the right thing though communicating and socializing looking for help keep it up

I'm just sick and tired of living my life feeling like a slave to something. I have such an addictive personality and am sick of doing everything habitually and feeling like I cant escape. It runs in my genes. Hereditary. My dads an alcoholic, smokes bud everyday too. So does my mother. And if I had the choice to do over again I wouldn't have even smoked my first cigarette. If i'm able to do this for myself there will be no way i'll let ANYTHING become habitual again. Thats if I even decide to drink or smoke ever again. This is the hardest tribulation i've ever encountered besides heartbreak.

Most people seem to deny alcohol withdrawal symptoms long after a doctor can tell that they're in w/d with a 2 minute examination.

And REM rebound is a physical withdrawal symptom of marijuana.

But I would drink a kombucha, go to an AA meeting, and take a very long walk. You'll feel better afterwards.

How will I know if i'm withdrawaling? i can admit i have a dependency but im not noticing any physical side effects thus far. No shakes or tremors. I actually feel a bit better physically. Not waking up hungover, dehydrated, shaky, and fatigued. I need you guys though. Im making a complete 180 with my life. I dont have many friends due to social anxiety and won't make any until I move.. Im starting a new life 4 hours north

I feel like im mentally stronger then having to go to an AA meeting. Thats why i'm here.. You guys are my AA meeting xD. I dont want to have to result to that. Its all mental and psychological. Im trying to stay productive. Wireweaving and making jewelry out of gemstones. Im leaving to head north the weekend of the 26th where everything will change for me. Different job. Different place. Different people, and going to school for pharmacology.

I don't think you'd have extreme wd's after that amount of alcohol, but keep a sixpack around in case you start feeling very gnarly. While mine is not qualified medical advice, I do have a bit of firsthand experience.

Five months sober so far, and while I don't plan on being sober every day for the rest of my life, it does feel very good.

While I have reservations about aa/na, rustifer gives good advice. Maybe replace some water soluble vitamins and excercise a bit so you can get tired and sleep without the sweet sweet booze.

And heres another question. Obviously my mind is going through enough shock quitting these two substances. I want to quit smoking cigarettes aswell. Start working out and exercising again.. Should I wait a bit or throw all three things down at once? Im scared if I take the cigarettes away it is going to push me over the edge or something. I get irritable as fuck. What do you guys think?

I'd probably have sweaty palms, a warm feeling in my head with a head ache, I'd kinda feel like I wouldn't be visibly, I'd have horrible anxiety that consumed all my thoughts and caused me to feel confused, heart rate and blood pressure would be up, insomnia, and when I did finally sleep, even more hardcore dreams and nightmares because alcohol withdrawal also causes REM rebound.

No I don't think you drank enough to go into d/ts and absolutely need to be in a medical setting to detox, but it's always smart to do so because alcohol withdrawal is harmful to the body. At least take some thiamine though because you're probably deficient in it.

I'd also wait on the cigarettes, you suspicion about it sending you over the edge is right.

Making tea helps my beer cravings believe it or not.
There's good day teas to pick you up and night teas to help you sleep.

I wonder what it is about this, because I do it to. Particularly kombucha, and I doubt it's from the tiny amount of alcohol that's in it.
