I have seen this trend a few times recently giving them the old man cut as punishment.

Georgia barber gives misbehaving child an old-man haircut

If your child is misbehaving, there's no need to send them to their room anymore...

Book an appointment at A-1 Kutz -- a barbershop in Snellville, Georgia, just outside Atlanta. And make sure you ask for the "Benjamin Button Special" -- the haircut of choice for misbehaving children.

It all started when a woman came into the barbershop with her rule-breaking son. She asked the barber to give her son a bald spot on the top and a low cut on the sides.

Darion Hammonds, a barber at A-1 Kutz, watched as his boss give the child the unfortunate cut.

He tells As it Happens guest host Laura Lynch "I was kind of laughing. But, at the same time, as a parent, you have to do what you have to do."

Since then, pictures of the haircut have been creating a buzz on social media. "When everybody saw the little kid online...it just kind of went wild. Like there's a young man, with this old man's look. How did he achieve this type of haircut," said Hammonds.

Not all responses have been positive, with many saying that child shaming isn't an appropriate way to discipline a rule-breaker.

Hammonds doesn't agree.

"I would rather you do this than your child get older and you have to see them in jail or anything like that," he said.

They use this as a replacement for spanking I guess. If I was a kid I would rather get spanked. But If I got this haircut I would shave my Dad's eyebrows while he was sleeping. Fuck that.

yes because psychological torment as punishment is a lot more effective and healthy than isolation punishment. :rolleyes:

I wouldn't go as far to say this is psychological torment.

I think it's
1- hillarious
2- a pretty good way to get the kid to listen.

When I was a kid I didn't really care about "time-out" that much. I'd just find toys in my room and play until it was time to go. Sometimes I'd forget i was in time out and just play in my room for hours. :shrug:

I sure as shit would've shaped up once I had a messed up haircut. you care a lot about your hair when you're a kid.

Must have been traumatizing for the child: first an old man haircut, then friends laughing, and now his picture is even on shroomery...poor little guy.

I use to care about my hair a lot when I was a kid, my parents would've had to be beat me senseless to make me go out in public like that..

I used to have really long hair and a couple times in like middle school an high school my parents made me cut it really short as punishment for getting bad grades

I got it shaved in middle school all the way once

When I was a young teenager I had long hair and loved it. Felt like my long hair was my identity back then (I was only 13 or 14). I was real into hard rock and metal and all the new stuff coming out back then (around 99-2000).

Well I was a shit head in school, constantly in trouble, getting written up literally every single day. Pops finally had enough, brought me into his bedroom bathroom and sat me onto a stool and proceeded to shave my head. Total military style buzzcut...I cried.

It didnt work. I was still a shit head and still got in lots of trouble. My mom told me a couple years later that later that night when they were in bed my dad got teary eyed over it.
