It becomes even more obvious when the experience of an NDEr matches the paradisiacal description of their childhood religion. I have yet to hear of a devout religious person go "Holy shit! I had everything wrong!"

that's like the second futurama "movie" where fry becomes the "space pope."

Yivo, a large (planetary) purple entity claims that christians/catholics came up with their imagery of heaven based on the gases the entity produces (resembling white, fluffy clouds) and angels are based of the jakabirds that keep Yivo's surface free from parasites

as well, one could compare it to how often, though not always, someone's dreams are composed of elements of their daily lives.

I'm not gonna waste my time worrying about an afterlife or lack thereof, at least not while there's still pretty sunsets, cold beer, and warm women in my life. I feel like I could turn that into a country ballad.

personally, i feel like "religious followers" miss the fact that THIS PLANET is, or was before humans degraded the environment....but still is in many ways, PARADISE.  as well, it can be made to be hell

that's funny you say that.. I've thought for sometime, if a church was really connecting with the spirit, they would be utmost concerned with the planet and teach all of its followers to plant and grow mushrooms for bio-remediation purposes.// but seriously in genesis god gives man one mission and that to watch over and care for the garden.. that's it folks.. one mission././ I don't really see the modern church talking about that very much at all,. which is pretty surprising since that was really the only thing mentioned as the work set aside for man.. anyone else think this way too?

Also interesting, i don't know the verse off hand and im feeling to lazy to google, ill come back and edit it in if i feel like it, but in genesis god tells man, to use every seed baring plant.. now it doesn't necessarily say to consume every seed baring plant, but to use,.. yes..

So is the modern church in direct heresy of the bible and in direct disrespect of gods orders by not encouraging use of marijuana, one of the most useful plants on the planet.. so imo if a church doesn't educate its people about the planet and plants and marijuana then they are just going through the motions to make themselves feel good.. like the first tool album, Opiate. 'Religion is the opiate of the state"

any thoughts on this??

But I think this also, but don't understand why you think that contradicts the possibility people may experience other dimensions of experience including heavenly and hellish experiences?

That's not something that can really be determined in this life, so I figure I'd rather err on the side of logical thinking and assume those situations are contained in their minds. I've had psychedelic experiences that could be considered both "hellish" and "heavenly", but I don't seriously believe there were any supernatural elements at play. Like someone mentioned earlier, these experiences could be similar to dreams in the sense that we use our conceptions/experiences as a template for whatever lucid state they are in.

First let me see the etymology of 'logic' which derives from the term 'logos':

Quote:
logos (n.) Look up logos at Dictionary.com
1580s, Logos, "the divine Word, second person of the Christian Trinity," from Greek logos "word, speech, discourse," also "reason," from PIE root *leg- "to collect" (with derivatives meaning "to speak," on notion of "to pick out words;" see lecture (n.)); used by Neo-Platonists in various metaphysical and theological senses and picked up by New Testament writers.

Other English formations from logos include logolatry "worship of words, unreasonable regard for words or verbal truth" (1810 in Coleridge); logomania (1870); logophobia (1923).

logic (n.) Look up logic at Dictionary.com
mid-14c., "branch of philosophy that treats of forms of thinking," from Old French logique (13c.), from Latin (ars) logica, from Greek logike (techne) "reasoning (art)," from fem. of logikos "pertaining to speaking or reasoning," from logos "reason, idea, word" (see logos). Meaning "logical argumentation" is from c.1600.

Now, you start off claiming--regarding this question:
Quote:
That's not something that can really be determined in this life, so I figure I'd rather err on the side of logical thinking and assume those situations are contained in their minds.

Did you read the article above I linked this thread to, about the scientific study Of NDEs?

what do you mean describe it like an aboriginal???

and do you mean real aboriginal or people who claim to be but are white and have no features that are aboriginal and say "my great grandma was one aboriginal I am black"

Most aboriganals are of the Christian faith and are detcached from cultuar so I doubt they would describe a NDE as sream time.....

I'm not here to discuss the etymology of the word logic. Obviously I am using it in it's modern form.

The article you linked only claims he maintained some level of consciousness for a brief period after his heart stopped. There was no mention of him experiencing an afterlife. The author's insistence that others who've been declared dead may have experienced afterlife, but cannot remember due to drugs, is merely speculation. I found the article to be unconvincing as far as legitimizing the notion of an afterlife goes.

Do you have a point to make here, or are you going to keep linking unsubstantial articles and the etymology of common words?
