Well the answer is the egg, why because the creature that layed it wasnt a chicken.

actually its the chicked because the first chicken type creature would have layed the egg

yeah, fish layed eggs long before chickens. so then you must ask, which came first, the chicken or the chicken egg? so then it comes down to a definitional question, what is a chicken egg? is it an egg layed by a chicken or an egg that contains a chicken? whichever you decide, determines the answer.

Once on a mushroom trip I had a revelatory answer: It doesn't matter. We have chickens and we have eggs.

Probably not what you're looking for, but at the time it was very profound.
