Re: Just re-read siddhartha, what can I do to get more into buddhism? [Re: nicechrisman]

I believe the teachings are a philosophy based on mushroom use.  I have collected some sources, annotated some books, but have not fully developed these ideas into a structured discourse.  However, there is a article by Scott Dobberstein, which implies that the Tibetan Buddhists used Amanita mushrooms.  I however, maintain the Buddha is a symbol for the mushroom.  Here's a link to Scott's article.http://www.scribd.com/doc/77607530/Scott-Hajicek-Dobberstein-Soma-siddhas-and-alchemical-enlightenment-psychedelic-mushrooms-in-Buddhist-tradition

Here is a copy of a thanka I purchased in Nepal.  Notice that the Buddha is sitting on a platform rising out of the water.  The Lotus? No, Amanitas grow after heavy rains; also, the one-footed or one eyed creatures from mythology as well.  Along with that image are the rainbows, also signs of rain; as is the pot of gold from the Leprechauns (another mushroom myth).  Next, is the red disc behind the Buddha, a sign for the mushroom cap.  Behind that is the underside of the mushroom cap; amanitas have white spores. And the whole image is framed as if it were an eye; the all seeing eye. And when I look at it very small, I can see the alchemical sign for Mercury; another mushroom symbol.

I know it may seem like a coincidence or just a superficial interpretation, but once you get the message, this stuff is quite obvious.

I guess I don't see anything that even remotely resembles an amanita in that image of Samantabhadra

Well it is not supposed to be obvious, only to initiated.  Nicecharisman, look at the picture in you post-- that too is a mushroom.  A stem going to the eyes?  It is iconic.

If you really follow the teachings of siddhartha, you would follow your own path. That is what he taught, and that is how he gained his enlightenment. No path is the same, and to become "Buddhist" is the most un-Buddhist thing you could do, in my eyes. Buddhism isn't supposed to be about doing or believing or knowing, anything specific. That is what the followers of the Buddha turned it into.

It is about yourself, and what you can do to take yourself to higher levels of consciousness. It is about you transcending your ego to the highest form of yourself. And no one else can teach you that.

quite true.
