Also, I was under the impression that a grand slam is 3 billfish species in a day and a royal slam was 4 billfish species in a day? At least that's how it's done here.

Yeah no whites here. We get the other Marlin species, Sailfish, Swords and shortbill Spearfish here. Nearly had a grand slam last year with a blue, spear and stripe. Stoopid stripe didn't eat properly and come off!!

Starting to rebuild my skirted lure collection since I am rebuilding the new boat. If you have ever trolled lures before then you will realize how I have laid them out is where those lures sit behind the boat in a staggered spread if the back of the boat was to the left of the pic. As you can see, years of trial and error have helped me figure out that certain colours and head shapes work best in certain positions! The shotgun/stinger position is the lucky dip position where I will run any lure I wish. As long as it's smaller and more lazy than the rest of the spread.

Do you rig baits like balyhoo ,Squid or mullet on your lures or just use em plain?

Depends - not if the lures have hooks in them though.

On the bigger boats that switchbait, I'll rig up a belly flap in the hookless lures pulled off the corners. When they get a taste of the belly flap they go mental and will eat a beer can if it's splashing on the surface.

Sometimes when skipping dead baits I will get the bottle cap off a coke bottle and drill a hole in it, put the bridle through the hole and push the cap over rhe head of the bait. Means we can troll the baits at 8 knots instead of 4-5. I know some people buy plastic heads for baits but the bottle cap works for me.

Have caught Striped Marlin on freshwater mullet skip baits, after we hooked up I was gobsmacked. Then we had another bite on one and I was like :laugh2:

Also in regards to the belly flap in a hookless lure whilst switchbaiting - I rarely start my day with them in a lure. If we get a couple fish up behind the 4 lures but don't seem interested or have a whack and don't come back then I will stick a belly flap in a lure to try keep them there. As soon as the switchbait is within 10 meters of the sweetened lure, we rip the lure out so the bait is in front of his face. One day we had 2 strikes early that we missed due to the fish not being fired up enough to stay in the spread. Put on the belly flap and tagged the next 4 strikes - all 4 bites some of the most aggressive I have ever seen from Striped Marlin.

But vice versa, I've had fish come up and hit the lure with the belly flap so hard that the flap came out and the fish lost interest as he got a feed. It's a tricky one to call sometimes

Jordy Man that brings back some memories I was on a charter once and the mate made a skirted teaser out of an old Mt Dew can Some synthetic hair held on by duct tape. Like a big Kona head.  And it did work. :lolsy:

I used to make lures with an old film cannister, a washer and lure skirts. Marlin are so fucking dumb when they're aggressive that they would try eat a pool noodle if you splashed it along the surface. We've gotten them on beer cans and flip flops, next up I think we need to make a lure out of a dildo hahahaha

Bluefish are even dumber if it moves they will eat it. But the Dildo idea just might work, But if a Black Marlin Went after a BBC dildo would that mean it was gay? :laugh2:

Saltwater fisher here, if I could only chose 1 lure, it'd be a "Deadly Dick".

:mitebecool: but 7 plus dollars is a lot for a bluefish lure. When a 2$ stingsilver does the same thing.

Picked up a couple Black Bart skirts, Tahitian Prowler in the black dot/rainbow skirt colours with twin Mustad 7691s and the Mini 1656 flat in the blue/rainbow skirt colours with a single 9/0 Bart Pa'a hook. Got his Eleuthera Plunger and Mini 1656 Angle still to arrive, he sure makes some beautiful lures!!
