When I see pictures like this it makes me realize my true insignificance. I also always try to check them for UFO's.

Woke up to an absolutely gorgeous day here in Southern NJ which was a surprise because it rains a lot here... anyway, decided it was far too good of a day to waste and decided to go on my first SNJ hike... to the infamous Pine Barrens. No Jersey Devil spottings, unfortunately. I went to Wharton State Forest, in a town called Nesco. Driving down there I passed through Hammonton NJ, a gorgeous town and apparently the blueberry capital of the world.
Anyway, I figured I knew pine forests having hiked out in NM and growing up in North Jersey, but let me tell you, this was unlike anything I've ever seen. It definitely lives up to it's name! Had a great time, and it was absolutely beautiful. Can't wait to go back. Couple cell phone pics, of course they don't do it even remote justice.

Gonna go get some food and watch the game.

Todays hike was about 12 miles total, all on foot. Brought my 5 year old daughter and my dog, and they both made it just fine. I think 12miles is a good challenge for a 5yr old she didn't have any trouble.
A really cool baby gopher tortoise we found:

Some enviroment shots of a cypress swamp area we ran into:

Some coral fungi pins:

A giant grasshopper/locust:

A HUGE amanita species, needs I.D never seen an amanita this large the cap was 11 inches across:

Wtf is up with the huge growth on this tree?

Yeah, that whole mountain range is a real hidden gem. It prevents me from traveling or having to travel farther for backpacking.
Dog friendly wilderness area too..

Oz looks awesome!
Blu Shoes, ever camp at the water gap? Some of my favorite woods are out in that part of NJ. where you from?
Bumping this thread so it doesn't go onto page 2. More pics from the gorgeous Pine Barrens of NJ. If anyone here offroads and lives near SNJ or NJ in general... I advise you hit up Wharton State Park. Miles of fucking off roading trails.
This Batona Trail goes for like 50 miles through the barrens into numerous other state parks. always a nice hike.

On the Batona

Dope lake, forget the name of it, but will be a nice spot for a joint once off probation!

Looking up is the best part of the scenery.

And finally some of the off roading trails I was talking about. Only problem is it's flat as can be down here. South Jersey is all flat. Off Roading in North Jersey puts you at risk of fucking flipping, the terrain is straight rocky and mountainous. But boy is it fun

That looks pretty sweet... I didn't get a chance to do any camping at the water gap, just a day of hiking/gathering. It rained most of the time, but it was pretty sweet regardless. I live in Chicago, but I travel a lot for my job.
Peace -BS
