The Fairchild Oak, one of the largest live oaks in the south. This pic doesn't do it justice

Smyrna Dunes, east coast of Florida. One of my favorite places in the world.
Local wildlife
My trail buddy
This is the Senator, also know as The Big Tree. Once the oldest Pond Cypress in the world and recently destroyed by a meth head smoking inside a crevice in the trunk. The accused was quoted as saying "I can't believe I just burned down a tree older than Jesus." I only got a chance to see it once and as you can see, it was getting dark but I felt like I was in the presence of a dinosaur.

This guy was just chilling in my backyard. Let me get really close to him/her

The south has her moments. I'm in Central Florida, on the Atlantic side, north of the Cape Canaveral area. The thing about Florida is that you have to look for the beauty. Our wild areas are often very dense with vegetation and it's sometimes like the saying "can't see the forest through the trees" was made for the state. The grand vistas are few and far between. But when you find that beauty, it's something special.
And yeah, that was a very sad day when we lost the Senator. It makes me want to get out to see the Redwoods even more now though.

yeah definitely one of my favorites threads on the site... shame this forum doesn't get much traffic! you'd figure all the psychedelically and like minded people would be more into nature?
and yeah, I definitely gotta get out to see the redwoods. amazing stuff.

I remember these fuckers were EVERYWHERE down there, used to have a couple of them as pets back in the day: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/images/reptiles/green_anole07.jpg Jersey has squirrels, FL had them little guys. haha. I love 'em!

hahahha that's awesome though, they're so cool! and incredibly fast. I remember back in the day I thought I had trained mine (I was like 13, don't judge too hard)... brought him outside, jumped off my finger, and that was the last I saw of him. Sad, sad day.
