Yeah those Anoles are outnumbering people in FL, I bet there is 300 in my backyard right now.

Interesting side note: The green ones are actually being overrun by the larger, more aggressive and invasive brown species. The green guys are usually found higher up in trees or on buildings because the brown ones like to live on or near the ground.

This really is one of my favorite threads too. There are some great pictures on here.

Today:

Clitocybe Nuda, a very very interesting fungi.
"Clitocybe nuda may look innocent enough, from a human perspective, but be glad you're not a soil bacterium facing this mushroom's mycelium in a dark alley. As George Barron's micrograph illustrates, Clitocybe nuda sends out tiny hyphae that penetrate bacteria colonies and kill them, sucking up their nutrients!"

The sun behind dense fog, a horse I seen today, and a flooded area, the top of the fence is barely visable..

It's definitely something to behold. October 11th is the predicted peak of the colors so I'm gonna go camping and get some good ones!

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I cut straight through the forest, and that has made all the difference.

Just got back from a road trip up the west coast and got to visit some truly awesome national parks along the way.

Crater Lake National Park

Yosemite National Park

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Sequoia National Park (my personal favorite)

Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park

Spectacular photos:congrats:

Sequoia and Olympic in particular are two places I have to see before I die. There again, pretty much all the national parks out west would be amazing.

Icelander that's nuts! I'm jealous.

And Hoh looks like an amazing place, definitely a place I need to go see.

Another hike today, Parvin State Park, Salem County, in the dirty south of NJ
Seriously, this place was a mess. it got destroyed by a storm over the summer, and was just re-opened to the public. Stupid me decided to go for the first time today not realizing it was Columbus Day... place was packed with people.
The trail I took had markings every half mile... unorganized to the max. and the blazes looked like they were painted in 1930. so faded. went down wrong trails numerous times, and if I didn't print out a trail map I'd probably still be out there trying to get back.

RIP Homie

I used to live in Seattle.  I once spent 18 solid sunny days (was a record for that time of year) in the Olympic National Park.  A friend and I averaged about 15 or  20 miles a day and only saw a tiny part of it.  The Hoh is magnificent and so is the glacier at Mt. Olympus.  If you like to fish salmon or trout it's killer.

yeah 18 days of straight sunshine is unheard of from what I hear out there. that's awesome though. I wanna visit that area of the country really badly.

No way, this mountain is tiny compared to Rainer.  This is just one of our local southern Oregon Mts. There are a lot.

I don't.  I grew up in Michigan.  I am still amazed at our Mountains here and many can be seen from my deck.  I just know that some are alot more amazing than others.

I'd love to live in a town like Bremerton, where you're close enough to get to Seattle for anything you could want to do with easy access to the Olympic peninsula.  I would totally be at Lake Crescent and in the national park every weekend.

Hoh is amazing!  I wish I could've done the glacial meadow trail but that is way above my level at this point.

More pics of Hoh

Squirrel!

Also because I forgot, Humbolt Redwoods State Park.  While I am more of a giant sequoia guy, the redwood groves were awesome.  Our campsite made me feel like I was in Jurassic Park.

I lived just above Crescent City CA on the forks of the Smith River for a year when I first came out west.  I loved being in the Redwoods.
