Anybody ever been to a Mars Volta show? I saw them with the Chili Peppers and the Queens of the Stone Age last May, and i was blown away. They are far from the type of music i usually listen too, but now i love them. I have never seen a performance with so much raw energy and feeling.
By the way, the Chilis kicked ass like always, and The Queens of the Stone Age have got to be the worst band i have ever seen. They played the same song (their "hit" radio song, i dont remember what the hell it is called) twice, how lame is that?

yeah, RHCP are fucking great live, I saw them with the Foo Fighters when Californication came out. In between songs Flea would say the most random lines, like "Anthony Keidis' mom loves asparagus" or somethin weird like that. Hilarious. And then John played a solo song singing with his guitar. That was fucking great.
I've seen At The Drive In live, and they were crazy-by far the most energetic band I've ever seen. And in between their songs, the lead singer, the dude in Volta, would spit a few lines of poetry, which were always reeally good.
QOTSA blows donkey dicks.

Personally I think they Suck Major Ass but then again I don't really like that sort of music.
To me it sounded a bit overblown and pretentious... some guy wailing passionately over a lot of overdriven guitar-based noise, with the idea that the complexity made it somehow special and different; better, even...
Personally I couldn't see much quality in it. I thought it was all show and no content. That might sound a bit harsh for "pop" field music but a lot of it is just that.
