i was an ATDI fan before the mars volta were around, and i seem to be the only veteran that can 'admit' the mars volta are the supreme band :P ATDI are absolutely unreal though, nothing against them, but the mars volta is where they show their true colours.

I was a huge atdi fan in the day, they were one of if not my favorite band. Although I don't think they have made a record as good as relationship of comand, I still think Mars Volta has a better thing going.

modern king crimson was my first thought about the mars volta... they make MUSIC rather then sell music!
i have loads of respect for them but i often find them way too intense to listen to, i've got to be in the right mood or i get tired fast

I seen them live when they opened for APC. I wasn't impressed at all. The lead singer had the mic stand in his teeth and was dancing around like some african tribal dance lol.
They seemed like they wannabe zeplin to me. And there were no breaks in their songs, it was like one giant monotonous balad that never ends! Ok I was prolly a bit harsh, might be better if I heard the studio version but live I didn't like it.
Sometimes I think Maynard picks bands that totally suck so you truely are impressed when he comes out

You guys like the mars volta are the only talented musicians making good music that's not "mainstream".
I used to be into them back in 2002, but now...I can listen to a few songs, 4 tops without getting bored.
I'm so glad I didnt pay 150 bucks to see them live.

I don't really dig their stuff, I've only heard one of their albums though.
It sounded like they were trying to hard to be good or something, I don't know.

I saw them at Bonnaroo and the myth of them sucking live has been personally destroyed. They were the best show I saw the entire weekend, and like emptywisdom said, I've only enjoyed seeing Tool more.
for The Mars Volta.

I also thought that Mars Volta was the best show I saw at Bonnaroo. Which is weird cuz I was pretty set on seeing Galactic that night, but at the last minute our new friend Sweet Melissa convinced us to go. And it freakin' blew me away. Even though I had heard good things, I was unprepared for the awesomeness of The Mars Volta. Good times, great music. Yeah!

gbhtrfv said: they supposedly suck ass live, because they're too busy with stage antics to play the damn songs well. at least omar and cedric are.
but hey, the albums are excellent and very trip worthy. very unique music too, i love them.
I thought just the opposite. They were great in concert but thier music style is hard to translate onto CD. It is like a dead show in that it flows from song to song with impromptu interlaced. I liked them before seeing them live and after the show I was totally loving them.
