yea dude looking good!
i also love my GH, but I'm not yet ready to say i like it more than a mono.  they are equal to me so far.  GH con tams far less.  but mono fruits are much bigger for me, but i have not tried the bag thing like u did, i do trays, so I'm sure if i make them deeper, i would get bigger fruits.

Yeah, I always fill several syringes (and label them in order) from an LC in one sitting and then put it away, so I'd say the syringe I used for this one got contaminated at some point provide the others turn out okay. Interesting to hear about the Rusts, the second flush should be opening in the next few days so I'll take a bunch of prints... been meaning to do a grow from spores since I've never actually done spores > grain > fruit before for cubes.

I'll probably like my greenhouse more when I get around to getting a humidifier for it, just been misting it as necessary so far. It does seem to contaminate less! I guess it's cause they get so much fresh air. The fruit sizes seem about even for me, but I mostly do small monos so that probably affects it.

i'm sorry this may seem stupid but,

those tyvek filter patches you have on your lids, is the hole in the metal the same diameter as the circle of tyvek? if the hole was smaller wouldn't this be a spot/crevice for contamination?

Re: Let's test some new isolates! [Re: civility]

The hole is approx. 1/4", it's made with a nail so it varies a bit but is smaller than the filter which is the size of a quarter. I coat the edge of one side of a filter disc with silicone and attach it, then apply an additional bead around the edge to ensure there's no gaps; it doesn't matter on the inside since it should stay sterile unless the filter gets wet. Previously I used a square of chemical apron tyvek held in place with micropore tape, which also worked pretty well.

hmm sounds good nucleophile. the grain, once its in the jar, and your shaking it all around trying to break up the mycelium; that won't wet the filter and wick contaminants?

@TheApprentice - LOL, I love oysters. That's a jar of ground up cat food and sawdust, anyway, they don't even care, I think they'd colonize and fruit on a dirty towel... actually that gives me an idea.

@civility - nah, it doesn't hurt to shake it, the inside shouldn't be overly wet if prepped properly and the filter basically has to have sustained water contact (like being submerged) in order to get wet, it's pretty water resistant.

2 days later, the cup grew up. That's actually a really nice pinset, IMO, I may have to make this mug a permanent grow container!

Double decker mutant:

2nd flush Rust box has a very nice canopy. Should've picked the day before but I wanted to see it fill out for a photo.

The agar wedge spawn box from the first post is pinning like a tidal wave... they all started on one side and pinned in a row across the box. Weird. Got a lot of myc on the caps for some reason, box is mutated as heck. Anybody know what causes this? I can't figure it out.

Ya got some verticillium in that last pic which is why yer caps are grayish and malformed. Also is the cause of the freckles on your stipes. Nice canopy tho :super:

Oh no! Thanks a bunch for catching that, I've only seen it once before a looong time ago. I'll put the tub outside (good weather for it, at least!) and give the greenhouse a wash since the all that's left in it are two small boxes.

The verticillium tub recovered reasonably well after I put it outside and stopped watering it (aside from a little rain). Thanks again for pointing it out, Pasty, elsewise the whole thing would probably have been toast. Dat partial canopy.

It's kind of neat how much difference there is between this clone of another variety and the Rust isolate... the first flush of this clone (albeit infected) was a lot fatter and meatier than the 2nd of the Rust, although since one's a tray and the other's a mono it's not a fair comparison, just an observation.

Also, I'm still really impressed with the mug's performance.

update just for the heck of it.

The rust tub needs buried but it keeps pinning so I'll keep it around for a while yet, this is the pinningest substrate I've ever raised.

Meanwhile the tub with the thick canopy that was outside was harvested and sat outside for a week looking like hell and getting rained on.

On the bottom:

Good to see it wasn't ready to give up, either! I kind of want to flip it but I figure it's best to leave the pins in the conditions they formed in, if they wanna be on the bottom I ain't gonna tell them no.

Meanwhile, I think the LOL mug is just screwing with me.

If you flip the sub though they will really take off, though they will mature undernearh surprisingly well
Nice canopy as well man, glad you saved it

Alright, I managed to flip it without breaking it. We'll see what happens!
This is my favorite isolate, I saved it from a 9+ month old LC I forget about when I took a break... I don't have any other cultures of it besides the ones growing in this tub so I've been trying to recover it on agar.

I should have mentioned earlier that when you flip it, it helps to fill the tub with water up to the holes which will float the sub and make it easier to flip without breaking. Then just drain off the water. This also acts as a dunk which won't hurt nothing.
