Salvia hydro clones
    #1978545 -

Take clones from healthy stock plants. If they've been outdoors, make sure you spray for mites (use AVID) and rogor (to exterminate thrips, white fly and aphids). Systemic pesticides are excellent, it's complete extermination.

Bottom line, you can't introduce any plant materials from outside to indoors unless P&D free. Otherwise a plague will explode.

Now many people moan about ag-chemicals (in ignorance usually) but seriously when you're dealing with cuttings then by the time they've striked and grown to a mature size, all chems are gone. The withholding period is no where near that duration.

Rock wool in NFT cups in flood & drain crate with rez at 24C. Nutes Bio-Mix chelates & organic sea acids. Fluro lighting, warm spectrum.

Dock foliage (leaves) in halve so transpiration is reduced. No need for IBA solutions, adventitious roots happen regardless. No need either for nodes to be media immersed. They'll initiate as is on internode.

A closer look.

Humidity dome on, check in a week & open dome vents.

Yep roots are happening.

4 weeks total all are striked & grown on too (evidenced by new and entire foliage) and ready to be potted up, bed planted out (shaded moist zone) or continued in hydro grow to larger cells.

Too easy. Strikes as readily as Salix.

Nice .looks very healthy. Ya good cutting come from healthy mother plants.

I took some cutting from some wimpy plant and lost 3 of the 4 cutting.

1- the plant should be more stiff than flexable.
2- free of pest
3- Root them in clean h2o bottle is best(ive messed up here befor)
4- trim the plant like cutting off the leaf in half and take off the larger leafs.
5- Node or stem will sprout roots(ive made many cutting with no node in the water just stem)

Awesome! I'll be sure to use this when I can hopefully take cuttings in the future.

Thanks guys.

zeta, the laws in Oz blow on salvia, that's for sure. But unlike Cannabis, not many know what it is so you can grow it outside without woe. If anyone asks, say it's Dwarf Hydrangea. It looks remarkably close to the Dwarf Hydrangea cultivar, except Salvia has a square stem and the inflorescene is chalk and cheese.

Remut, the light is two 600mm warm spectrum fluro's in a twin 600mm hood. You should be able to get the hood and fluro tubes at a hydro shop.

Temps in under the dome, less than 35C as per max indoor temps occurring in summer. Salvia will strike with a root zone at 22 to 24C and ambient temp at 18C (which is the optimum temp for initation in a wide range of genera) all the way to 35C peak of summer with a high 20's C root zone in this crate. All up Salvia is a tough plant IMO, easier than Cannabis to strike by miles.

Humidity in dome with vents closed would be 90%+ R/H as per water trickling off inside dome walls. The crate floods with fishtank-heater warmed nutrient water, for 15 minutes, every 6hrs, on a timer, from a small submersible pump in rez crate below, which assists with the high R/H in under the dome. As it drains back through the pump line it draws fresh air down into the profile of the NFT rock wool filled cups, thereby giving much needed oxygen to initiation/respiring-roots. It's an automatic DIY clone system.
