We got on the subject of making meth because there's ephedrine in NyQuil D.  That led to the subject of drugs and dealing drugs, which is something we never talk about.  Now I know why.  His solution to the drug problem is to lock everyone caught with an ounce of heroin or more up for life.  No chance of parole.  I told him "Well, if you're going to take that stance, you're going to have to be prepared to be okay with me, [my sister] and [my niece] to be locked up for life if we were caught with it".  Fucking guy flat out said he'd be okay with that and that and that we'd basically be dead to him if that happened.  I'm finding myself now seriously questioning how much he loves us.  WTF. 

Now he might just be talking big and then if it really happened then he'd change his stance quick.  But I can't believe even in theory that he'd be willing to take that position.  Jesus Christ dude.

Should he go to prison for the rest of his life?  He will be charged for the crime, it doesn't matter if it wasn't his heroin, he has to do the time.

If we follow his line of reasoning, there are NO excuses for possession of drugs, he must go to prison for the rest of his life.

I actually thought about that.  If I bring the subject up again, I'll ask him.  If he's that serious about his stance, he'll have to agree to lock one of us up for life just for even unknowingly possessing it.  The law is the law.

It's not that he's wrong on drug policy.  Most people are and I accept that to a certain degree.  But the fact that he's willing to see his son, daughter and granddaughter rot in prison for life for drugs is an extreme stance that most parents wouldn't take.  I hope.
