If you are serious about learning to defend yourself you should learn a striking martial art like tkd and a grappling martial art like jiu jitsu. You don't want to do it just to fuck people up though. It is just a good thing to learn for your confidence. I don't know if you have ever lost a fight, but it sucks. Tkd is cool but it is pretty much useless if the person you are fighting locks you up and brings you to the ground. Tkd will teach you about fighting on your feet and jiu jitsu will teach you about how to have control in a ground fight. Tkd will definitely keep you flexible and it is better if you don't do drugs that hinder your performance that way you can get the full effect of the classes.

Definitely true... also not to jump at you but it seems like your interest might be slightly misplaced idk it just always bothered me when people talk about badassery when it comes to martial arts idk its physical but... its mental too dude... both very much in balance... this is a great recommendation... specifically sonhgam tkd, perhaps the most striking and direct orientated tkd... also if not ju jitsu krav maga is also a nice pair training with tkd (isnt this what GSP trained? Sonhgam and krav or was it ju jitsu?) I used to train tkd and my instructors also taught krav ive watch them do some really impressive demos with weapons too if thats your thing tkd would be fun

I think Tai Chi is brilliant.

Ye olde five animals style kung fu

jeet kun do! (bruce lee so baws)

Xing Yi Quan

Tae kwon do

Hung ga kuen is marvelous :Awemazing:

"The Hung Ga curriculum that Wong Fei-Hung learned from his father comprised Single Hard Fist, Double Hard Fist, Taming the Tiger Fist (δΌθ™Žζ‹³), Mother & Son Butterfly Swords (εζ―ι›™εˆ€), Angry Tiger Fist, Fifth Brother Eight Trigram Pole (δΊ”ιƒŽε…«ε¦ζ£), Flying Hook, and Black Tiger Fist (ι»‘θ™Žζ‹³)."

If only I could do all of that... Already 21, years seem to fly already :\. Wish I was Asian

I am no fighter! :P I've been training not-so-consistently for the last 30 months,  I've fought in jiu-jitsu competitions though

I dint know why anyone would attempt to fight when they got even a mild buzz going. Dampened reflexes, impaired thinking, partial loss of motor control. So stupid.

Tae-kwon-do is mostly kicking with legs, which is not practical for a real fight.

She's right. Modern Tae Kwon Do has very little applicability to real fighting.

Not like real kickboxing.
