I fucked my back snow skiing in high school, that shit doesn't get better. It's downhill your entire life. You can opt for some risky surgery that'll either make it a little better or realy fuck you up.

at least I got something out of tearing up my body... couple All-conference and All-state awards for soccer and track and cross-country and football. There is some saying about living posthumously though ones past achievements.

Yup, I expect to be in a wheelchair by the time I'm 30. Two of my vertebrae are smashed into each other and bowed out, and all the doctors said was "Well, that sucks."

How fucking sad. I'll bet coaches don't tell kids that this shit is going to happen to them. I'll flat out tell my kid that if they play sports hardcore they are going to wear themselves out or get fucked up.

I have cousins with bad knees from basketball, former gymnasts whose bones ache when it rains, and a former wrestler friend who has arthritis and walks with pain (he started to feel this pain when he was 20). Imagine being in your 20's and hurting all the fucking time! Fuck that!

How much were you dead-lifting?

I do 168 pds. + 12 pds. (the bar weighs 12 pds.) and that isn't very difficult. I am scrawny (5'7 144 pds.) I could easily do over 200 but I don't want to injure myself.

I think low-rep max strength building is the best way to become strong for fighting. Endless reps has diminishing returns and doesn't equate to power that is needed in short bursts of activity in a fight.

Or you could forget strength building and just train in boxing, judo, wrestling...etc... and beat the pants off of any musclehead you choose.

Absolutely spot on.

There's nothing better than low reps and heavy weights. With that said, maximizing the efficiancy of your work out with things like proper warm ups without exhausting yourself, adequate rest between sets and excersizes, proper form (!) and of course nutrition and sleep is fricken key. Anyone who does their best to conform to these sorts of standards can pretty much guarantee growth. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that if you train your body using your brain, and nourishing it like a plant you will see results.

I think pushups are definitely awesome for skeletal muscle, and pull ups + variations are great for strength, but you should still switch things up, no?

I know that I'm not the most hardcore body builder, but from what I've discovered is that you basically should try isolating mucles seperately or in groups, and work on hypertrophy and nuitrition (again, including sleep). You switch up routines a few times a year, and get to know your body. I found that the first few months or working out, pushups and the like were fine. Put on lots of muscle, but after that it's really about knowing your body and what to push, and when.

I guess I'm just scared of switching things up. :lipsrsealed:
