Looks pretty good.. but it doesn't say anything about the sifus (teachers) which makes me wonder.. I would check it out in person and get a feel for it and especially the teachers.. very important to get a good teacher. Shaolin Do Kung Fu is well and good, but I would personally prefer Wing Chun Kung Fu.. it's a matter of preference though.

What are the differences between Shaolin Do Kung Fu and Wing Chun Kung Fu, Shroomism?

Here's school in Austin. It lists it's lineage but I'm afraid it may be too expensive.

well.. shaolin do will tend to focus more on weapons like bo kata, and animal forms like white crane and tiger.. Wing Chun was invented to take advantage of the weaknesses of Shaolin systems..

Quote:

In a fight alot of the time your opponent will be bigger than you, stronger than you, or both. Wing Chun teaches economy of energy and structure, which comes down to believing in the importance of not confronting your attacker's force directly. Instead, in Wing Chun you gain the ability to work with your attacker's force dirrected towards you. Wing Chun works for poeple of any size.
Wing Chun has two traditional weapons and they are butterfly swords and the dragon pole. Anyone can learn Wing Chun. It is a great hobby or whatever you would like to call it. I personaly learn it because I love the stuff and I want to fight later on in my life. If you would like to study Wing Chun Kung Fu you do not need to be very athletic or big and strong. Wing Chun is a fighting art, but even if you were not learning Wing Chun to learn how to fight it will make you a better fighter no matter what. Wing Chun is a fighting art,if not the most then one of the most practical styles out there in the martial arts world for stand up fighting.

However Shaolin Kung Fu has much merit.. I have not studied it personally, so I am a bit biased.. but from what I know of it, it is also very effective.

well I tend to steer away from arts with belt systems.. but I've heard some good things about Tang Soo Do..which is essentially a mixed martial art. But from the looks of it, it's just an inferior form of Jeet Kune Do.

Jeet Kune Do - the "formless" art that Bruce Lee invented. It embraces ANY style that works efficiently, and there are no belts. Bruce Lee was trained by Yip Man who developed Wing Chun Kung Fu basically from Shaolin Kung Fu..

Hap Ki Do is my all time favorite. Not very good for excercising whereas they mostly teach you to immobilize your enemy using their own momentum and stressing their joints. What do you think shroomsim?

I studied Tae Kwon Do for years and the only thing you will gain other than excercise is how to count to twenty in korean.

Hapkido... reminds me of Aikido meets Kenpo. Haven't studied it myself but I would love to.

"styles" I am/have been studying - jeet kune do, brazilian jiu-jitsu, wing chun, chin na, tai chi chuan, chi kung (qi gong), krav maga

I must say shroomism that after seeing all of your tattoo's and hearing you talk about all of these martial arts that you have studied, I am afraid to meet you

Hapkido is cool.  I took a few classes and they do not really do anything physical with until you prove your knowledge on how the body works with its muscles and joints.  There is a huge risk for damage to all of your joints when practicing hapkido.  But that goes with out saying.  Also when I studied it, the dojang made you pay for extra insurance through them which was like another 150 a month.

relax.. you should know that most anyone trained in martial arts is expected to have the discipline to never want to fight unless they are in danger and being attacked.

I used to take Aikido, and all I learned was how to fall without hurting myself.

That's because aikido requires years and years of dedicated training to reach any kind of proficient level.
