Ground rules for Volume Two choices:

The song must be either:

1) listed in my collection posted earlier in this thread
2) something I can download
3) A song that your willing to send me in a timely fashion

I would love nothing more than to get you a copy of the CD! Actually it was a post like yours which asked about what dead music to listen to if you wanted to get turned on to the band which inspired me!

Some suggestions for Volume 2

Should it be late 60's hard rocking, driving music with Jerry playing lead like a mad man and Pig singing some blues?

Or....More of the 70's great music, or a mix of the two!

60's for sure. i think one of these volumes at least should be dedicated to the early dead.

Right here brother. Sorry I have been slackin. Going to get my collection out today and make some recomendations. All my stuff is from the 60's and 70's which are our favorite years. I have some really tight shows. There all on cassette, but I can still use them to make recomendations.

Pala- you mentioned earlier that you really like the filmore Mountians of the Moon. You said Pigpen plays ther piano great. Just to clarify i'm pretty sure thats Tom Constantin plating organ. He was a organ player they brought in for awhile in addition to Pigpen. He played on most of the Mountians of the Moons and when he left I don't think they played it again or if they did very rarely.

Yeah, I think you're right about that. My mistake.

Up until a week or so ago, I didn't realize that they used two keyboardists at some points (Constantin and Pigpen in the late 60's and Pigpen and Keith from about 70-72, when Pigpen died).

i would really like to hear the second volume. it is gonna be incredible, with all late 60's stuff. i haven't heard too much of the stuff before 69, but the stuff i have heard is INCREDIBLE! i will make a cover within the next week. im gonna title it something like volume 2: the early years.

oh yeah, im not gonna bother with a back cover for the first volume, but for volume 2 i may make a folding cover with the track list on the back of the fold. i think at least some form of track list needs to be included with these

Screw 60's and 70's, early eighties smacked out Jerry is the best. So dark and deep yet still gets me high with Brent going crazy. I'll throw 12-09-81 estimated on the list cause thats what I'm listening to right now and it rawks!! An Alabama Getaway from the same time period would be super-dank. P.S. any heads out there catch this last Other Ones tour, or this summer's dead tour?

Funny, I love the band so dearly but If i can hear Brent's voice I usually dont listen to it again. he got a little crazy there and started to sing above Jerry, after that it was death to Brent in my book. Poor choice of words I know.

After 8 years on tour and knowing thousands of Deadheads I would have to say that you are pretty much on your own in your choice of the Deads best years. Jesus man the early 80's were absolutly horrible. Sure there was a good show here and there ,but on an average they were in a bad period musically IMHO. Luckily they started to pull out and get more consistently better in the mid 80's. Everybodys got a right to like what they want and i'm not trying to be an asshole, but I have never heard anybody say that the early 80's were the best. Jerry was so doped up on herion he didn't know what band he was in, Brent wasn't fitting in at all, and Phil was battleing the bottle. Very dark period musically. Like I said there were a few good shows ,but they were few and far between.IMO
peace

Just bought view from the Vault's newest release, a pair of shows from July 87 and I think the first one is flat out bad. Uninspired at best, the second one I haven't gotten to yet but the first one was so bad I took it out to listen to some 70's Winterland show. Jerry just isn't there, I don't know what the fuck is up but I don't feel that usuall warm pleasent ear zipping presence.
