Whoa, that is crazy.  I am curious as well.  I have never seen so many of these in one tub.

My guess is that it's just a mutant flush.

that's actually 2 diff tubs...  both MS, both from same grain batch and 2 different batches of substrate mix.

these are my first monos, i used bucket tek (i know i know)  will never do it again.  i have 2 more incubating using franks tek (almost as stupid easy to do as damion's, just takes more attention)

i see some vert conditions on some fruits, none on others, weirdness all around.  one tub has a liner and one doesn't.  the one without has a TON, i mean a TON of sidepins and even some of them have the small opened caps.  both tubs definitely have the same symptoms.

sigh, i got a bad feeling about this...

Your spores had dominant mutant genetics for some reason.
I see no Verticillium or contamination, these are fine, the next flush will likely be more normal.
They're still safe to eat.

Mutants

Mist that thing, it looks very dry. Consider dialing in the tub a bit better.

these tubs are not PE.

bucket tek IME is inferior, based on personal experience (3 times, contams everywhere each time), shroomery user observation and experience (check out the many threads debating this) and simple science.

it's easy though, and cheaper (not by much), and still will grow mushrooms.

thanks all for the input.  dialing in is tough to do when you have no experience.  i can look at all the pictures in the world and read threads till my eyes bleed but i usually find myself standing there looking at my tubs and scratching my ass.  learning more each day by doing.

Yogi Berra was quoted as saying "in theory, theory and practice are the same thing.  in practice, they aren't"

i was surprised with a couple of 30g fruits yesterday in a bag, so that made the tub frustration tolerable.

2 days later.  i'm wondering when it's time to pick these?  hard to tell with the mutations.  any advice?

Is that green I see in that picture? To the left of the top-right bottom hole.

Contams can cause that kind of weird shitty growth...not the mutated cap but the apparent lack of FAE those are receiving.

Either that or you really need to loosen your top holes or turn your fan up. Those look like they are suffocating :frown:

it is green.  i'm prepared to write off this tub after harvest.

i'm a bit confused by your 2 posts above.  first one said it looked dry so i misted and turned the fan down one setting.  this didn't effect my rh any but increased condensation on tub sides.  second post said turn fan up.  i agree, the fruits look totally fucked up.  whether mutation, infection, moisture or air i have no idea.

i cant say for sure if it's getting enough fae but i have a fan in the room about 5 feet away on high setting.  it blows toward the ceiling (air filtration fan).  according to my hygrometer rh is sitting around 90-95 depending on time of day (ambient heat).  the side of the tubs closest to the light have less condensation than the opposite.  both tubs have the exact same conditions and strange fruits but only 1 has the visible green contam.  i've been keeping my fan at the highest possible setting and RH has not been compromised.  all holes are 1.5 inches.  bottom stuffed as tight as i can figure out how to.  tops are so loose that when i took the lid off to take a pic, one of them fell out.

recap:  2 tubs with same fucked up looking fruits.  both tubs with same RH and FAE.  only 1 tub with visible green contam.

so... i'm assuming this problem begins with a mutation.  then obviously there is a contamination.  i'd guess it's with sub (bucket tek) and not spawn.  it is safe to say if there was moisture issue with sub at initial preperation it would be hard to tell because of the mutation?

all this is kinda moot point as at least 1 tub is toast after harvest.  i'm just trying to pinpoint best i can what is going on in hopes to avoid it in the future.

so far all i've come up with is NO MORE BUCKET TEK.

No more bucket tek is a good start.

I would guess you may have a similar contam in the other tub if the fruits are looking like that. Is it from the same culture? LC or g2g or agar or spores?

If the other tub is performing like this, adjust your poly and fan again. Keep at it until you get it. It took me a very long time to perfectly dial in my tubs. It comes from experience.

Like I said though, hard to diagnose when you have a contam present...it looked dry at the start and now you've got super fuzzy feet and small caps. I've had perfect conditions give me pithy little sad mushies, to my confusion, only to see a green trich-splosion the next day

If not a contam, keep messing with your poly and fan. Maybe try a new culture as well.

Oh yea it looks less like PE now and more like Malabar or Malaysian but I'm new to the hobby so I'm just guessing. They look kind of cool mutated like that.

I can't wait till I get to this part of my first monotub project, which I just started.

they are from the same ms syringe to 2 pints.  1 pint to 6 quarts to 1 mono.  the other pint to 6 quarts to the other mono. diff batches of bucket tek 80/20 coir to each tub.

my next 2 tubs will be ready to fruit in day or 2.  i did ms to agar, and used 5th gen agar cultures to innoc 6 quarts.  pretty sure they weren't iso's yet.  1 tub = 50/30/20 poo 2nd tub = 80/20 coir.  both using franks pasteurization tek.

thanks again for your input.  i'll update again in a couple days with progress.

24 hour update.  they have grown a ton over the last day.  put a lighter in there for reference.

any guesses as to whether or not they will sporulate?  also, if they dont drop spores how can i determine when to pick based off stalks only?

I had something really similar happen to a tub once. It was an MS tub that eventually got contaminated with Trich, so I moved it outside to see if I could salvage it. Most of the tub went bad, but the fruits that did grow started to form those weird growths. Not sure if there was any correlation, possibly just weird genetics or something. It sure freaked me out though! They should still be good though, and it looks like they'll be dropping spores anytime now.

Those caps are upturned. If they aren't sporulating by now they probably won't.  Those are more than ready to harvest IMO.

at what point does the levels of psilosin and psilocybin cap during growth?  if the levels of actives wont scale with increased fruit mass i see no reason not to pick.  but if they will get larger while keeping up in chemical level i'm gonna let them get bigger.

thoughts?
