Check out this ball growing off of one of my friends caps of his PES Hawaiian. You can?t really tell by the photo but the ball is a tan color. WTF is it? Mycelium? It sure isn?t white thats for sure. Is this a genetic variation or are my friends growing conditions off? Does heat have anything to do with because it has been real real hot lately? A few of his little guys also have these things growing off of them.
Aside from weird ass balls the little guys look OK and they are growin?.

Hey its just a little humor, calm down. Its just a deformed mushroom, nothing too amazing. Deformation happen pretty ofter so its safe to much down.

I have a shroom growing from my casing with a similar "growth" on top of the cap...it's actually mycelium that the cap had to push through in order to grow out of the casing layer. I asked a few people about it and they all said that shrooms can do some crazying things in a casing and that as long as it doesn't change color (mine is the same color as the stem, not cap, of the shroom it's on top of) or start to rot/become slimy to just allow the shroom to grow out.
What's funny is as the shroom gets bigger each day...so does the "growth" on top. LOL It may look weird but as long as my casing remains healthy and the shroom itself remains healthy...I'm not worrying about it.

Most say that the deformed shrooms and aborted ones are more potent than the healthy ones, so don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for the input. My friend has never seen any weird shit like that since he has been cultivating for over a year now. My friend won't sweat it unless it changes colors or something else strange.
More potent? That sure would be nice! My friend will post his feelings about that after he eats em.

It looks like you'll probably see another stem grow out of the top kind of like siamese shrooms joined at the cap. The Mushroom Cultivator shows a picture of this and it says An abnormality occasionally seen in psilocybe cubensis. Nothing to worry about though. If it starts to grow another stem just concider it two for the price of one(bonus round!!)

If that "tumor" starts to get rough in texture; It's called rosecomb an abnormality caused by contact with chemicals, especially those that are petroleum based.

Would having dunked the cakes in a peroxide mixture for 12 hours cause this rosecomb?
Is it safe to harvest shrooms with this on them? I have several will it on their caps. The shrooms keep growing but so do the rosecombs. Will the casing be good to harvest or is it too late?

No Boppity, Peroxide is useful in this hobbie. I pretty sure it's mostly petroleum based chemicals.

It's still safe to allow the shrooms with the rosecomb on the caps to still mature and harvest, right?

OK its four days later and my friend has harvested the shroom in question. It got pretty big (6") but the abnormality did not grow any larger.
He will post his experience after he eats it. Hopefully it is some super potent mutation like was previously stated. We'll see.
