The Ku Klux Klan is a vigilante organization. It was founded specifically to terrorize and often kill black people in the interest of limiting their voting power. They were also founded to intimidate reconstructionist politicians from the north.

The police are just like the KKK: they are an illegitimate law-enforcement organization, operating in violation of the constitution, which terrorizes and marginalizes people in preservation of the status quo.

Religions aren't fucking vigilante organizations. It's more appropriate to understand them as networks of community centers, the schisms of which can reach national proportions. Violence has nothing to do with their creeds, as they exist today, and comes from extremist schools of thought that run totally contrary to the mainstream.
