On Novelty
    #18026971 -

nov·el·ty  (nvl-t)
n. pl. nov·el·ties
1. The quality of being novel; newness.
2. Something new and unusual; an innovation.
3. A small mass-produced article, such as a toy or trinket.

Novelty always leads to the next step. Novelty is absolutely essential towards the evolution of our understanding. With new events comes history. With new events should come new understanding. Naturally occurring events that are outside of our control (volcanoes, meteors, weather, etc) which happen seemingly at random are responsible for keeping the novelty. Original and creative thought is novelty that is within our control. For the sake of keeping it simple, lets call the first nature-novelty and original and creative thought self-novelty.

Nature-novelty is beyond our control. It is the universe in raging chaos. The reminder that we are human. The supernova of stars, fusing elements into novel elements. Novel arrangements of elements into molecules led to the universe as we know it. Novel arrangements of molecules led to DNA. Novel interactions of DNA led to the human being, and every known living thing on the planet. Etc, Etc. It should not be hard to see that nature-novelty is the driving force of the universe.

Self-novelty is contained within nature-novelty (as we are natural, afterall)and has to do with us and how we respond not only to nature-novelty but the former novel creations of those before us. Newtonian physics, a novel theory, was recreated by another novel theory, Einsteins theory of relativity. I'm not saying what Newton contributed to physics wasn't great, it was a great novel contribution in its time.

Self-novelty increases with keen observation of nature-novelty. You know what Einstein and Newton had in common? They observed...They realized nature-novelty and got with the new. They began to think, independently and creatively, they unlearned what they "knew" and thought creatively about the problems they were observing. All of human history is recorded novelty of ever increasing complexity. I will postulate that when novelty is suppressed in a society (new technologies, new ideas, new anything that threatens said society), then corruption has taken over.

Think independently and creatively, do new things, have new experiences..seek out the novel.

custom+novelty=evolution. Novelty seems to be an actual force in the universe..Custom acts as a constraint on novelty allowing for experience. Without custom we would not have anything to add novelty too. Custom could be seen as "Past" if thinking in terms of "Time". Novelty could be thought of as the "Present" and evolution could be thought of as "Future".

If we are aware of our customs (our past habits) We can easily change them in the present (novelty). The trick is to always be on the lookout for new things. New experiences, new perceptions, new...anything! Depression happens when we have stopped introducing novelty into our lives, and we live according to nothing but custom. We must have (custom+novelty) in order to be happy and in accordance with the universe. The customs of those before us were once very useful novel creations in there time. Only now, they have no use, they are depressed. They have lost their novelty. We must have custom as a constraint on novelty for growth to occur. Elements could be seen as a custom constraint on novelty that allowed them to form into molecules, and so on and so forth.

Self-control is very important in maintaining a novel state. You must always be aware of your self and your surroundings. If there is something you feel you should be better at in life (be it with relationships, schooling, creativity, spiritualism..whatever) You must have the self-control to realize when your custom pattern of behavior has gone wrong and what you can do to fix it. Usually alls it takes (for me anyways) is to realize when your external world has been influenced by your internal world in the way that you do not want it to be and then proceed to change your internal world (self-novelty) and observe the reaction. I'm unsure what to name the immediate area where this connects..it is somewhere between self-novelty and nature-novelty.. It is within our control, yet only once we realize it..It is also still subject to nature-novelty meaning there is still a lot that is beyond our control that can intervene or switch it up at any time, and it depends on our ability to have the self-control to change ourselves, and the ability to be self-novel (creative).

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

That's really all you have to say? I thought this was a philosophy subform not a trolling forum. Yet again, I managed to attract three trolls. LOL

I like when someone reads the word Novelty and automatically assumes it has something to do with Terence Mckenna. Lay off the shrooms man, its an actual word in the dictionary meaning "New".

Do you have evidence that sarcasm is the sign of an immature mind or did you just make this up? More like emotionally-charged statements with zero backing are indicative of such.

You really want me to counter this when any high school physics book or even a dictionary would show the error? It is incredibly hard to have an actual discussion of gibberish.

Not

This gibberish actually makes perfect sense to me and several others I've shown. Just because you do not understand it does not mean it doesn't make sense. Please counter this, I am asking for it. I am looking for actual discussion not some blind ignorance.

I also find it hilarious that you are typing here with emotionally charged statements with zero backing, when you just said it is the sign of an immature mind. My proof is in the pudding. To find evidence that novelty, that is to say "the new", is a force in the universe one need only to look at the present moment and everything that is changing within it.

First look up force. If you want to have a discussion when you redefine words on the fly then you will not get very far.

My God! It's full of novitrons.

Or like when someone writes 'machine elves'; both words in the dictionary. I wonder how many non-actual words in the dictionary... :strokebeard:

Wait... wait... wait...

you're telling me that nature-novelty is uncontrollable
and self-novelty is a byproduct of nature-novelty
but for some reason I have to forcefully make self-novelty happen?
as if nature-novelty wasn't already producing it?

I think you're a little lost on your thinking but maybe I just don't get it\
why would I need to do anything?
and how could anyone repress it?

are you under the impression that everyone can be Einstein or something?

"Self-novelty is contained within nature-novelty (as we are natural, afterall)" They are one and the same, perhaps we should edit contained to something like "Self-novelty is one with nature-novelty"  we do not have to force, that would be pushing away. Pay attention to your day take notice of thoughts.
