Haha, yeah, it's a rubbermaid container that I got for $2.39 at Target.. It's one inside of another, with the outermost being partially filled with water to insulate the one containing the jars.. Similar to the fish tank heater idea, but much more managable and the heat is more efficiently/evenly spread, even without water in the outermost tub..

Current temp: 82 degrees farenheit

Oh, by the way, I don't know if you can see it.. The heater is suspended about a foot above the ground, resting on a cinder block to buffer the heat zone and the cork floor.

doesn't the outer plastic box get hot?? not trying to bust on your setup, but maybe you should get a heating pad...like the ones for reptiles.

but if that plastic doesn't melt, that's awesome.

Looks pretty good, I think that the water inside the plastic container will keep the plastic at a low enough temp so that it wouldn't melt. Water has a lot of specific heat, which is why it's so good to use as a heat buffer. But just out of curiousity how long has this setup been running? In spite of what I say there may be a chance it would melt.

If the water is acting as a heat buffer to protect the platic be damn careful the thing doesn't dry out!

yea that def. looks like if you were to put alot of jars in there, given the power of that kind of heater (I have two of them in my house) I can predict the jars drying out VERY quickly due to the excessive heat.

I think he was talking about not letting the lower container dry out.

Anyway, if it is not hot enough to heat the water past 82* there is no way it will melt the plastic. Looks fine to me, as long as you are sure you can maintain that low temperature with it. Actually, bumping it up a couple of degrees would be beneficial if possible.
