desiccant Drying
    #17760225 -

So my batch is fully grown and ready to be picked.  Is there any way to dry them completely within 36 hours?  I have desiccant on hand but need them dried within 36 hours.  Would a dessicator do the trick or should I try another method?  Also, how long do they stay good for once picked off the cake?

“Hallucinations are bad enough. But after awhile you learn to cope with things like seeing your dead grandmother crawling up your leg with a knife in her teeth. Most acid fanciers can handle this sort of thing. But nobody can handle that other trip-the possibility that any freak with $1.98 can walk into the Circus-Circus and suddenly appear in the sky over downtown Las Vegas twelve times the size of God, howling anything that comes into his head. No, this is not a good town for psychedelic drugs.”

Fan dry them for 24-48hrs and then place in a desiccant chamber for 24-48hrs.(They must be fan dried first or you will over saturate the desiccant)

Or get a dehydrator and have them dry in 12 hours.

Put your desiccant in a few cups in a tup and then put a small fan in the tub, and cut a hole for the plug to go out and some air to escape. Drys mine really fast..

If you are using desiccant you do not want any air exchange with the outside environment. All that does is waste your desiccant as is has to pull the moisture from that new air comming into the container as well. An airtight bin with desiccant lining the bottom and something like a window screen suspended over the desiccant to hold the fungus works pretty good. The less empty space in the bin the better. A fan like a computer fan can be added inside the chamber to move the dry air around and speed things up. After every day check on the desiccant and remove any chunks that have absorbed moisture and bound together in clumps, once removed, mix up the desiccant and close it back up again.

A Dehydrator kicks the shit out of desiccant drying. If you're serious about this hobby get a dehydrator, you will be very glad you did. They are cheap and beat the hell out of buying new desiccant or recharging dessicants.

If you fan dry them first, you would replace the desiccant less often.

A desiccant chamber is used to get the remaining 10-15% of moisture that is left in the fruits, that fan drying could not get.

If you place fresh mushrooms in a desiccant chamber, you will over saturate the desiccant, and it will take much longer to dry.
