Prepare your area as though you were going to use the oven sterilization tek (place oven on low setting and pull the ovn-rack out several inches).
Place a cookie sheet with spaced-out mushrooms (drop the pun) on the rack and aim a highspeed ran on the fungus.
I think that this would be a great way to dry mushrooms without the desicant.
Just a thought, for, I have never actually dried mushrooms before.

Easier is to get a shoebox, cut out most of the bottom (leaving you with sides and a bit of edge around the bottom, put a bunch of mesh over the hole in the bottom, and put a fan underneath. Shrooms on the mesh, fan points up from below the shoebox, air runs over the lot of it. Easy and cheap and fast.

Your method is similiar to the Hurricane Drying Tek which is useful for those in a hurry but you are better off taking your time and letting them dry slowly.
You can even just lay them on the counter in a warm room overnight. Split open the big stalks for easier drying.

i thought faster drying meant that you wouldnt lose as much potency vs. slow drying-
im confused now
i have a dehydrator i plan on using
it is a round tray type-
it does not have a fan-so im going to sit it on a fan flat-
the bottom of it has holes as well as all 6 trays and slide vents on the top on the dehydrator-
should i use the heating elementon the dehydrator with the fan?
or just the fan?
wouldnt using the heat with the fan be about the same as the hurricane drying method?
which would keep most potency?

You be the judge:
With water in the mushroom tissue, oxidation occurs rapidly because an aqueous solution creates a medium in which electrons are easily transferred. Heat makes this happen faster because the faster movement of the molecules cause more collisions, creating a higher chance of a reaction to occur. It also denatures the bonds within the compound, allowing decomposiiton to occur more rapidly. As for the heat and how fast it can denature psilocybin mushrooms, it all depends on the magnitude of it.
The best possible situation is a cool environment in which dehydration takes minimal time. This occurring in aCO2 rich environment or any inert gas will minimize decomposition.

All i do is put a piece of nylon window screen over a laundry basket and tape it in place. Set the basket in front of a fan (be sure that the fan blows across the surface, so you should set the fan up on a box if it is too low to sit on the floor) and they will dry out fine in 2-3 days. If the rh is high, this may be less effective, but in the winter this is perfectly acceptable and there is minimal potency loss.

.... the faster you dry the shrooms the better period... as long as you use a fan and NO heat... dont use any heat guys... but no you dont want them to dry slow.... . the faster you dry them the better, as long as you dont use heat...

I have a large food dehydrator that has a temp control.
I set it at 85 degrees and I have craker dry shrooms in a day.
I have not noticed any loss in potentcy.
If you are considering using a dehydator....make sure you get one with a temp control.....most cheap ones don't have one.
You can also take the heating element out of the cheaper unit's.
Although it would take longer to dry the shrooms.

i use a tiny ass desk fan and then follow it up with some dessicant. target has these huge box fans that are only 20-25bucks. i would like to invest in one of these fans, that big and you could dry them in no time.

yea 85 degrees is fine... im talking oven drying... mainly i was commenting on stupid max and his stupid posts regarding stuff.... i thought it was a well known fact that drying shrooms fast is better than slow... just not using heat (too much heat) .......... pleez those are the fans ive been trying to get people who use dessicant to use...

this is my tek:
dehydrator racks w/ top lid (vents)
the bigass fans everyone is talking about...except i got mine at walmart for $10
and...i use a mini floor heater (w/ temp control) that pushes
out warm to hot air via small fan/hot coils....
this is what i do:
elevate the bigass fan and have it pointing up...basically making a table...lay fungi in the dehydrator racks and set on top of bigass fan....
...then i take the mini floor heater and put it under the fan, elevated by 1 dehydrator rack (so the heater can breathe)
and turn it on as well as the fan on fullblast! (bigass fan only)
to gauge the temps i lay a thermometer in the dehydrator racks to see what the temp is in there...
if its too high, i simply elevate the bigass fan.
*make sure there is space between the mini heater and the bigass fan....or else youll melt/warp the plastic grating on your bigass fan*
works great for me....and drys within hours with no potentcy loss

Yeah max, your practical advice, and the advice of many here steered me in the right direction. The 15g (Crackerdry) I harvested off my first flush proves it.
Still tweakin it though!!

Back again. Me used cement- or gypsum-powder instead of silica-based desiccant. Dried the shrooms fast, without any loss of potency, also without electricity and disturbing sounds like the fan. Theoretically of course, as always in everything. :-))

I have great results with a small fan. you could probably get one like mine for 10 dollars and dry your shrooms totally in a little over a day.

I have a dehydrator but I went into my local hardware store yesterday after all this reading and bought a box fan and the guy was nice enough to cut a piece of very fine wire mesh and attach it to my fan... i m in good shape now.. i just told him i hunted gin seng which i do and i was going to use it to dry it.

Cheap drying unit. i have a $15 walmart 3 (2 1/2" high each) drawer unit. its about 14" deep by 12" wide roughly.
in the top, a hole is cut, and a 8" fan is stuck in
each of the plastic shelves have about 50 holes (3/8") drilled in them, and air passes through all the shelves, right to the bottom from teh fan.
the bottom is open too btw.

K, I built that drying chamber with the tupperware and Dessicent, and I was gettin so many shrooms that it was getting too crowded....so I needed an emergency drying chamber...I just put my laundry basket (has holes ) over my heppa filter blowing upward...put some wire mesh under the shrooms so that they didnt fall thru the big laundry basket holes...put a big plastic bowl over the mushrooms and now theres a big swirl of dry cold air happening inder that bowl.....hope it works
