New MessageBox System * 4

As some of you know, we've been working on a new Private Message system, where private messages take the same format as our existing forums and journals.
Everyone has a private messagebox of this type, just as you all have journals (if you choose to use them).

To try out this new system, visit your message box by clicking on the MsgBox link in the top left section (where you find links for your journal and PM area).

Initially, you won't have any threads, since no one has sent you any messages.
After they send you some, you'll find them in there.

To send a message to someone else, go to their profile page, then click on the link at the bottom that says "Post to MessageBox".
It will bring up a new post page, which is the same as the page you get when you want to post a new message to a forum.

You will notice the option to secure the message, if the person you are sending to has secure PM's enabled, otherwise, this option is unavailable.
Note that multiple recipients are permitted.

Once your message is sent, they can read it from their message box area, and they can reply to it just the way they would reply to a forum post.
The set of replies between you and the other person will form an ongoing thread, just as replies to forum threads get longer and longer.
Any messages you participate in will also appear in your threads list.

Forwarding of entire threads and individual posts from within threads is also possible.
You can do this with the Thread Management drop-down list at the bottom of the thread display.

Play around with this new message system for a bit, and please report all problems and errors in this thread.

The "New MessageBox System" message in my MsgBox has been "deleted, or (I) do not have permission to view it," but I can see the contents via mouseover. I doubt that's important. Oh well. I'll play with it some more.

Oooh - good find.
I just have to set it so global announcements aren't seen as private messages.

Does a post I make to my own MsgBox that isn't secured by adding names go to everyone. I doubt it, that'd be trollbait. Or would posting to my own box with a name in the secured line send that message to that person in an unintended manner?

Edit: I can't delete messages from my MsgBox, that seems like it'd be a security risk and a waste of server resources.

Oh wait, the secured message thing is encrypted PMs. I'm high. :razz: That seems like a security risk to only be able to send encrypted sensitive data to some of the participants in the message... but you can only send it to one person, or is there functionality there where you can do a quasi-chain message thing. You're going to have to make a more verbose announcement about this, or you're definitely getting flooded with questions.

This seriously doesn't even make sense, Andy.

alright so I just posted in a few peoples message box, and it's not in my Msgbox, so umm how the hell do I know if someone replied or how do I check or do I just not know?

If you click on it via the thread list, the blinking :pm: does not go away, OP can you fix that?

But, seriously. there's a reason the wizards spent so much time to make this feature work... I don't know if you remember, but everyone laughed at mobile phones when they came out.
