Will this plastic box do?

Hey guys I am looking into getting a Plastic Storage Box due to the fact that I no longer own the aquarium I was suppose to us. Will this plastic storage box do? I am going to put perlite on the bottom and seal it off with the normal top that comes with it [Do you suggest I do that, or seal it off with plastic saran wrap]? And off course fan it out 3 times every 2 days...

Thanks. Also do you suggest that I put the lid that comes with it on or  put saran wrap in replace of the lid? [And of course fan out every few times a day].

It depends on the humidity in the room. You can use the lid, use the lid ajar, saran wrap, or no lid.

Or better yet make a shot gun fruiting chamber.

I think your trying to build a shotgun fruiting chamber right?

Well this requires you to drill 1/4" holes 2" apart from each other in a grid pattern on ALL 6 sides and fill it with 4-5" of damp perlite in order for it to work properly.

As for the lid, there is no reason not to use it...if using the tub to make a SGFC then its gonna have holes drilled in it.

If using the tub for a monotub there is no reason to seal it, the imperfect lid allows for GE(Gas Exchange).

And if doing cakes your gonna wanna mist/fan them 4-6 times a day, always mist first then fan. Mist the cakes directly until they glisten.

It will make things easier when it comes to fanning to use the lid, and the lid is clear:thumbup: so I would use it as is.

Perlite is generally used in shotgun tubs. I don't know of any perlite teks that call for a sealed tub. Generally PF cakes and bulk cakes will be colonized prior to being placed above the perlite so the tub never needs to be sealed.

Ok then thank you, and when I mist them do I mist the mushroom too? or just the cake?

So I will be adding perlite on the bottom, drilling 2 holes on all sides and 3 on top [While filling them with polyester]. This should be good? As for the heat I will be leaving them at room temp. and hope the mushrooms heat them up a bit, if not ill probably buy a fish tank heater...

The tub is fine.

Follow the SGFC tek to a T and you'll have no issues. Just make sure you follow it to a T though, and not pull a "oh, i'll just use a 1/2 inch bit instead", or a "well vermiculite seems like the same thing to me!" type of thing. Follow it to the exact T and everything will work like a charm. Save the modifying teks to your ideas until you got a few successful grows under your belt. I know it can be hard, because alot of ideas seem like they would work great, but believe me, teks are teks for a reason. Lots of trial and error over years and years of experimentation among many people led to those teks being the way that they are, because they WORK.
