Grin and bear it? How about actually putting some EFFORT into your commitments and goals.

That is like trying to reverse the flow of a river with a canoe paddle.

What they are experiencing is bound to happen to two people who stay together long enough.

Only if they weren't right for each other, and don't have anything left to teach each other.

What we are saying is how about not being a school girl about it, and actually making an effort to change shit, or ride out the rough patches (if you can even call his situation a rough patch) :foreheadslap:

But you can't make love happen where there is no potential.  For a relationship to last a really long time, the people need to always be able to teach each other new things.  With some couples, they can continue to teach each other new things for 50 years or more.  With others, you have already taught the other person everything they are going to learn from you within the first few years.

Ok ok.....i get it. Ill snag my PHD before i get married so I have shit to talk about and teach :rofl2:

Fuck do you hear yourself :goodmorning:

And putting effort into challenges is like trying to stop an unstoppable force? Wed all be speaking German right now if people held that bullshit attitude :commonsense:

Once again, I agree with you, putting effort into your commitments is great. OP said he tried, we don't know whether that meant one conversation or a year of counselling, but still, effort. And yes, relationships change over time.
They are the ones experiencing the rough patch, perhaps they know when enough is enough? What if separating is the best change that ever happens to them?

Sometimes separation is best for all parties involved, even when children are in the picture, there is no disputing that fact.

The issue at hand is the meaning of the institution of marriage, one starts with the mindset of commitment to god and family, and other mindset is it's good when I am having fun, if not I will get divorced. Which mindset do you think will have a stronger chance of keeping a marriage together?

Marriage is not just a union on a paper contract recognized by the state, marriage has a important history in human development, and is the cornerstone of civilization. Most people around the world don't even have the "luxury" of getting divorced for "not in love anymore" purposes, they stay together for survival purposes. Most Americans are so self centered and spoiled, they are conditioned to only think about their immediate gratification, and if that breaks up the family unit, too bad is their attitude.

For the most part, I have to agree with you there.
But we do have the freedom here to choose better over satisfactory. The breaking up of the family unit is a discomfort, not life or death. And like you've been arguing all along, a little discomfort is sometimes better in the long run.
I think an important part of the marriage is that its a free choice by both parties. But it's a free choice to continue the marriage as well. There has to be an out, otherwise its bondage without recourse if things turn for the worse.
I don't think anyone gets married for fun. What is 'in love' and 'out of love' is entirely personal, and can't be subject to outside judgement. OP said nothing about having fun or wanting to see other people, in fact, he spoke to doing whatever would make his wife happy...

What would you prefer, a father with 5 different kids with 5 different mothers, or a mother with 4 children from 4 different fathers?

How about a transsexual parent, or a parent in prison, that would be better than a married man and women with a commitment to the family?

You can't really make a conclusion without studying these types of families. Even then it depends on the society that they are in.

For example, if you were to ask "Should two fathers bring up a child in a homosexual mairrage, in pakistan or in lithuania, as opposed to nuclear family?" I would agree that a nuclear family is superior, but only because the intolerance for homosexuality is to the point of violence.

In our society there still is a intolerance for anything that is not nuclear in terms of family.

So you can't really know.

FROM MY PERSONAL OPINION, THEN, it is obvious that I would have rather my parents split up long before they got into crazy arguments on a daily basis.

The fact that the are still together astounds me and makes me feel sick to my stomach/confused.

It has probally messed with my emotions as well.

Logically to, when two parents are fighting they can hardly be nurturing to their child and often neglect their child because of the distress they are under. Not only that but I know many times that my mother and father getting angry at me for no apparent reason, which i attribute to the stress that their relationship brought them.

It's a complicated issue, but in my opinion it is better for the parents to be happy so that they can be as nurturing as possible.

"commitment to the family?"  wtf does that even mean?

A man and a woman are fully capable to raise balanced children together while living independent lives from each other.  Its not that hard.  Nobody even brought up the rest of your bullshit tangents

Your a shitty troll.  Your not even mildly amusing:peace:

Sure, moving back and forth to different homes is just great for children growing up, watching mom with a different BF every few years must be very entertaining.

Living a independent life as a parent must be "not that hard", since it's part-time instead of a full-time job. There are so many easier ways of raising children, but guess who ends up paying the price.

The only bullshit tangents have come from people that hate traditional family values, I have to say 99% of the people on this earth agree with my view, your "new age" perspective of family is a flawed ideology.

THIS WHOLE DEBATE IS VERY SIMPLE

If two people are fighting and thus are under huge amounts of tension, stress and anger then it is obvious that they wont be able to nurture their child.

You can't just go from fighting to being loving, without feeling a loss and eventually breaking down.

Fight against it as much, we all know that our social environment affects the way we handle our relationships. And in a love less marriage with hate, spite and anger the environment is very very difficult to overcome and still be a positive influence and a nurturing soul on your children.
