Re: Divorce. [Re: Anonymous #2]
    #17078483 -

Man, sure are a lot of people on here that believe themselves to be Judge, jury and executioner. To all you religious people, doesn't the bible say "Judge not lest ye be Judged."? Religious people always seem to forget that one first.

TO OP: Divorce laws are different in each state. For example, in California, alimony is mandatory. division of property is mandatory and if there is children involved, it gets quite more complicated, even if it is an uncontested divorce. In Texas, there is no such thing as an uncontested divorce if children are involved. You just have to get with a divorce attorney in your area and talk it over with him. There are some states that allow the two parties to arbitrate their divorce if it is amicable. It really depends on your state.

Religious people always judging others without knowing all the facts and details.  Makes me LOL every time.

Non-religious people are always the most intolerant of people they deem intolerant, why is it the most "open minded" and "free thinking" people get the most irate when someone thinks differently?

Doesn't the marriage vows say, "for better or for worse".

I'm guessing that the OP's vows said, "Til inconvenience do us part."

The religious ones do. But again, we do not know what type of marriage they had.  Could have just been a JotP wedding. Details...

Free thinking people don't get irate when someone thinks differently. They get irate when they try to talk to people who choose not to think at all -who are ignorant by choice and blatantly disregard facts.
Saying marriage is a religious institution is like saying education is a religious institution. Sure, the teaching of reading and writing used to be the domain of the clergy; But we're not in the middle ages any more.

Look, I even agree with you, if this is just minor friction, they should try to work it out, try to grow back together after growing apart.
But stubbornly keeping a negative relationship going -solely to display their knowledge of the definition of the word commitment, or because of what their vows said? Come on. Get with reality. Are you really saying a wife that gets beat by her husband every day should stick with him just to teach her kids the value of sticking to your vows? That's really a good lesson to you? You think that seeing mommy and daddy still in the same house somehow covers up the trauma of hearing them throw shit at each other every night?

I'm sure they went into it with every intention of living a long happy life together, hell they had kids together. But shit happens. And anyway, there's no way of knowing whether either choice will be good or bad for all of them in the long run.

Nice straw man fallacy . He doesn't beat his wife, and she's not abusive to him. He straight up told us that they're no longer in love.....that's why he wants a divorce. Stop creating imaginary reasons to back up your argument. Obviously there are some scenarios a paerson should leave, but this isn't one of them.

Further more why is it that every so called "free thinker" somehow thinks a religious person has his head in the sand simply because he has faith. You do realize that it is possible to hold a rational mindset and carry faith right?

No.......that would be too simple. Much easier to call a religious person close minded, and justify a stupid ass divorce that isn't even going through turmoil. :stonedjerk:

And YES btw marriage is a religious institution. Here in the west it is taken from the Bible, and the bible provides the definition for marriage......not to mention how someone is able to get divorced. You and every other ultra lefty seems to get this idea in their head that marriage is a secular institution, and therefore anyone should be able to partake in such a ceremony :failboat: not to mention such a ceremony is bullshit anyway, and you should be able to break it whenever you feel like bailing AMIRITE? Even in a non biblical sense marriage has been about commitment in order to survive in the world...helping eachother out. They have a kid for fucksake.

The OPs divorce makes about as much sense as a gay couple kissing in front of a book that deems their union an abomination and is responsible for the land vomiting out its inhabitants :pokerawe:.........it just doesn't make sense why either scenario wants to get married in the first place.

Oh wow, you took a logic class, congratulations  That's not a straw man. I was simply illustrating that their are perfectly good reasons to end a marriage, as you've agreed with.
I never once called anyone closed minded. I said it makes me irate to argue with people who are wilfully ignorant.

The bible doesn't define shit. You mean here in the west like the USA - a secular institution unaffiliated with any particular faith? The state issues marriage licenses, the state divorces you. I can get married on a copy of hustler if I wanted to. And yes, kings have created brand new religions for the right to break their marriages whenever they felt like it, that's a tradition I don't mind keeping.

That is an extremely good reason to get a divorce!

You only get one chance at life, don't spend it with the wrong spouse!

It follows that if a child grows up in a household where the parent's are unhappy, he won't turn out very well.

Doubtful.  Faith, by definition, is an irrational belief, not based on proof.

You know what......fine

OP....if you and your wife sat down one day and said to yourselves

"fuck we should get married so I can get on your health insurance!" ......then do it. Fucking uproot your stable position in life, make your child go through the confusion and negative emotions divorce brings...and fucking divorce!

But if you developed feelings for this women, and said to yourself "I'm so in love with this girl that I'm gonna propose because I could spend the rest of my life with her". Perhaps reconsider what you are doing.

Is nothing sacred anymore? Fuck what about the value of a firm handshake, or giving your word. What about integrity, discipline, or honor?

Guess these things kind of disappear when a guy wants to get his dick wet, or a girl gets curious for what other penis tastes like

Have a good life

The wrong spouse.....that's rich  :loldongs:

I know people who are still searching for "the right one" entering their retirement  they will probably die alone too.

What exactly are people searching for? A hot, ageless, perfectly balanced, funny, smart, interesting person with the ability to morph into celebrities and shit out pop tarts? :smirk:

Fucking grow up. This is planet earth. Shit isn't all rainbows and mushrooms. The simple fact that they have a child, live together peacefully, and they don't abuse eachother is fucking amazing in itself. And yet they wanna get back in the game....for what?

Infatuation?
New pussy?
To feel young again?
Excitement?

......at what cost?

My old neighbor beats the shit out of his wife. She screams for help and when the police show up, the girl says she busted her lip on the stairs, then begs the neighbors not to call the police so he doesn't get angry.

I have a buddy whose chick fucks with his head so much, his hair is gray-ing at age 22. He's stressed all the time, and the bitch fucks with his head on a daily basis. Not to mention isolates him from his family and starts fights with his relatives.

These people should consider a separation. Not fucking Patrick Magee the OP and his "problem marriage"

Thank you ano 10, you nailed it for sure. The OP made no mention of physical or verbal abuse, yet everyone jumps to that example for getting a divorce. Yes, if abuse is taking place inside a marriage, a separation is necessary to fix the problem, and then a reuniting is very possible, if not, a divorce is justifiable.

The liberal mindset has every reason in their mind to get divorced, why? They don't have real belief platform other than immediate gratification, anything that involves sacrifices and commitment under difficult conditions is not welcome.

Who are the most successful people in life? People that come from traditional family units, and liberals hate that fact more than anything in the world. They come up with a few select examples that are the exception to the rule, and use those rare occurrences to justify a flawed ideology.

I see this from a more pragmatic point of view - If his relationship isn't working / they aren't in love, he is doing both his wife and his child a disservice by sticking around and trying to force it to work.

The problem with marriage is that when you are choosing a wife, marriage requires that you are able to see many years into the future.  No one can see into the future; therefore people should not be asked to make vows that are forever.  People change in surprising and unpredictable ways over the years - Some times people grow togeather and sometimes they grow apart.  And when they grow apart, they owe it to themselves and those around them to...get a divorce.

The liberal mindset  I'm not even going to read the rest of what you've said because of that. Do you even fucking know what the word liberal means? This has nothing to do with politics, or separating humanity into two groups. You have to be trolling, I don't believe someone that stupid exists.

They aren't happy in their marriage, they've tried to fix it but it didn't work. Nuff said.

Everyone grows apart in due time, that is why marriage is a commitment. Dating does not have that type of commitment, when the magic is gone, any person can leave the relationship.

There is nothing wrong with not getting married if children are not involved, like you said it's impossible to see the future, but a child deserves a stable family unit, and dating does not provide it.

You're they only folks who have a problem with that, luckily enough its not your marriage!

People deserve happiness. Children deserve happiness. I am a child of a divorced couple. We all became happier once my parents got divorced. QED

Once again, insults continue to flow out of the more "opened minded" person, not very surprising, it happens all the time around here, you are just being consistent.

You hate traditional family values, so much that you advise breaking a family unit up because they can't fix their boredom and little arguments.

You have a very spoiled and immature mindset, one that will not prepare you for lifes hardships, your game plan is to run away and try to find new happiness, good luck with that lifestyle.

Grin and bear it? How about actually putting some EFFORT into your commitments and goals. What they are experiencing is bound to happen to two people who stay together long enough.

What we are saying is how about not being a school girl about it, and actually making an effort to change shit, or ride out the rough patches (if you can even call his situation a rough patch) :foreheadslap:

That is like trying to reverse the flow of a river with a canoe paddle.

Only if they weren't right for each other, and don't have anything left to teach each other.

But you can't make love happen where there is no potential.  For a relationship to last a really long time, the people need to always be able to teach each other new things.  With some couples, they can continue to teach each other new things for 50 years or more.  With others, you have already taught the other person everything they are going to learn from you within the first few years.
